GATSO van alert

Hi Lads,

Just thought I'd let all you M50 users know when you are travelling Southbound there is a GATSO speed check van sitting just before the M7 exit (MAD COW) lately. I passed him on Saturday and a mate said he seen him there Thursday also so BEWARE.
Dont ask me what gatso stands for

Regards

Cheers. That's an accident blackspot alright I've heard of one parked there a few times but never seen it myself. Travel that road everyday on the way to work.

Watch the N4 as well-there was one westbound just after the Liffey Valley slip in the past few weeks.

There is also a report on Boards of one on the Barbarstown to Maynooth road in the past week.

The MAD COW ain't so mad now it's freeflow!

The inventor of the camera was a amateur rally driver called Gatsonard, he wanted to know exactly how fast he could go around corners or something and came up with the camera, hence Gatso camera.

so that might be the reason somebody was probably doing 110 mph on the m50 today?

From boards.ie

I thought the Gardaí were not meant to be issuing speeding tickets and penalty points yesterday??, but alas I saw the Garda mobile speed camera unit parked up on the Naas road along the stretch between the Long Mile Road and M50.

I'd say this caught a few people out !!

Was there twice yesterday. I saw it at the spot just above the long mile road as it is alot of mornings, but in the afternoon it was between the luas park and ride at newlands cross going outbound.

Back at around 7.45 this morning on the M50-southbound just before the N7 slip (Red Cow)-at the bottom of the hill on the 'outer' shoulder.

Not sure if it can cover all 4 lanes from where it is positioned-maybe they are focused on the auxiliary lane?

Yep thats where I seen him, I suppose it depends on traffic volumn as to whether he can get all lanes...

Yeah, after reading up on GATSOs it seems that the camera is aimed at specific cars, so they can get you no matter what lane you are in.

On the M1 northbound on Friday night, the Gardai were parked up in one of the Gardai only spots. There was also a flash in the fixed camera positioned near the Duleek onramp southbound.

Ah, tis the season.

Reports of GATSOs on the Stillorgan Dual Carriageway, Malahide Road and Spa Well over the weekend. Both the Stillorgan and Spa Well locations are pretty well known I'd say.

There is also an interesting story here on 'getting away with it'. However, the thread has been locked and I suspect the mods will delete it. Basically, the guy argued that a truck travelling in the opposite direction to him could have triggered the camera (this would only work on a single carriageway I'd say, and there would have to be another vehicle in the shot).

Cowboys Ted, they're a bunch of cowboys!

Spotted a speedcheckpoint approaching Swords as you come off the M1 at the Lusk/Rush Donabate exit, I think thats the Lissenhall exit. Its a short stretch of dual carriageway and he was at the swords village end
