some questions :p

Heya Lads, I have some questions about the car

1. Borrowed the car to my cousin for two days because his bmw was stolen. Got it back this morning, but went to college and when I lift the clutch it makes a squealing noise, which is kinda' embarrassing because everyone is looking and sayin' "it's an alfa".. would some WD40 do the job ?

2. When I start the car it sounds like a diesel, is it a major problem ? or can it wait until the belt change ?

3. I`m thinking of a new exhaust for it, make it sound more sporty but not like a boy racer's car

4. I`m still in doubt about the rear spoiler for the 156 (hi-loop one).. whether to buy one or not

Thank you

It sounds like the clutch release bearing to me

This is the variator but I can overhaul them on a belt change cheaper then buying a new one pm if you want info

3. I`m thinking of a new exhaust for it, make it sound more sporty but not like a boy racer's car

Would be a nice subtle mod

4. I`m still in doubt about the rear spoiler for the 156 (hi-loop one).. whether to buy one or not

I think they look a bit too much as the standard one is nice and subtle

Thank you
..

Alfa GT 1.8TS

2 - Redx sorted my variator, still running grand (touch wood)

3 - I have an oval CSC on my 147. Really like it, not too loud around town, nice burble at idle and only roars when you put revs right up.
Exhaust 1.6 / 1.8 / 2.0 alfa 156 for Alfa 156

4 - Peronally don't like the huge loop spoilers for the 156.

diesel rattle is the cam variator, remember you asked for advice before you bought it and we said keep money aside for repairs? Anyway it wont affect performance or cause anything to break. Usually they are done with the belt but might not have been on the last belt change provided the mechanic wasnt an Alfa mech. It should probably last until the next change but Dave (redx19) can confirm that for you. As for the other two well they are cosmetic changes and and down to personal choice. I wouldnt myself as the big spoiler is a bit OTT and besides, the quiet exhaust you have should be enough encouragement to rev her hard to get a good sound
I know you can get a smaller spoiler for the boot and it looks a bit better, the other large loop spoiler is far too as we say in Tallaght "Scanger me Banger"

Yeah, I looked at some pictures with the big spoiler and it doesn't look very special, but I think you can't really see through the back window

As for the diesel noise, it doesn't affect me or anything, but I thought something is going to break it has around 55600 miles now, but the belts and all are going to be changed in December, hope Dave's going to do it

I`m more worried about the clutch... waiting for Dave's reply

Don't get a CSC back box there hideous sounding imo. Get a ragazon back box much niver and quieter. My dad's 156 has the same squeak was only fixed by changing some part in the pedal box iirc. And as the lads said it is the cam variator that is gone.
