Fuel injection cleaner

Hi Lads,

Does anybody (especially Dublin lads) know where to pick up parafin. I just found a thread in the 155 forum explaining how it is the best injector cleaner out there and much cheaper than off the shelf stuff. It is a very good and interesting thread.

Parafin is available in any pharmacy. You might need ID as it is registered how much any one person can buy. Strange location but true! It's coloured purple generally too to distinguish it.

Are you sure your not thinking of Isopropyl Alcohol Daryl ?

Any paraffin ( home heating ) oil I have ever seen is an orangy red ( It's great for removing tar from the car )

Alfa155 TS perhaps you could ask one of your friends/neighbours who uses it for home heating for some

Just got some Benzine Parafin in B&Q, I think Benzine is the brand name.

Ya, i'm sure. I got some a few months ago for herself in a pharmacy in ballyvolane, I was looking for some and the guy who runs the car shop told me to go to the pharmacy. I never though they would have any. Small bottles only, but it was paraffin.

Hehe, I found out why it is in pharmacys... brace yourselves!

Liquid Paraffin acts by softening and lubricating the faeces. The faeces can then move more easily through the bowel. By doing this it relieves constipation and reduces the pain of some conditions such as piles (haemorrhoids).

It is not as good as some of the other medicines for the same problems as the liquid paraffin can sometimes cause anal leakage (liquid paraffin leaking from the bottom).

Sorry meant Bentoline is the brand, not Benzine. 4 litres for 7.70 in B&Q. Woodies dont do parafin. BTW Daryl you are right, it is also used for those very unfortunate, embarrassing and painful medical conditions.

Well the paraffin ( homeheating oil ) we use is definately an orangy red.

EDIT : I just saw your last post, TMI

Maybe the medical grade liquid paraffin is different

yeh its orangy red as you said David. its not as strong smelling as petrol and you dont get the fumes off it either. Anyway I'm off to Trim tomorrow playing golf so that journey should run the stuff through the system so if its going to clean the injectors I'll know come Sunday.

Okay lads just thought I'd post up the results. The transmission in general is a lot smoother and a bit more responsive. Gear changes are much better. There is no longer a jump after I disengage the clutch. And also at idle the revs would go up to 1500 and stay there for a while but that no longer happens.
but I havn't noticed any difference in power delivery or torque. In the 155 forum some lads said they noticed improved power but not me. All in all I thoroughly recommend it though as you will notice a difference but probably more so on older models or with high mileage cars and by high mileage I mean 120K <
Now I bought 4litres of parafin in B&Q for €7.70. Cut the top off a pint milk carton and half filled it and threw that in.
A half a pint of STP injector cleaner is usually about €11. The irony is all injector cleaners are about 80% parafin anyway and the remainder is something like acetone which is nail varnish remover

Dont bend the rules, Rule the bends

Sounds about right. Our crappy petrol in ireland don't help. I'm sure I got some mad stuff in Killarney this weekend. Was the first time in a long time when filling the car you could smell petrol off it.
