Garage service cost comparisons

Thought it would be interesting if everyone posts up what it last cost them to have their car serviced (aside from those who do it themselves before youse all get smart with your 0!). Ended up going to Alasta in Ringsend last week as it's handy for dropping in on the way to work and I just didn't have time to check out TI or others. 320 for basic service, oil and filters. Open till 6pm to pick up the same day. It's not cheap but I was somehow braced for it to end up being more. They were a bit cheeky taking 9 off me for a tiny touch up bottle of Oceano black paint tho.

This should be a topical thread with the big R at the mo but we must post up if there is any extras at all in the services or work as some good garages might do some extras in the course of routine work and if any special offers were used so as to keep the information as accurate as possible....

I got a major service done a few months ago with TI and it did cost a lot more than I thought, €921 altogether.

Can you break it out Gavin - what was the basic service cost, before any other work was done?

Jayus that's daylight robbery man. I dunno about them personally when we tried to trade a car in against a 156 Ti they had for sale they where acusing us of the car being crashed and doubting the FSH the car too. In the end we decided never to darken their doorway again.

Go to The Sweep if you can and I will guarantee it will be a good bit less compared to you where charged there.

My last major service cost me 850 euro but that included a lot of work.

I know Gerry in TI and he is reasonable and very good this is where my earlier post as we need to break down the big bills if a comparission is to be really gained

What I had done was
Timing belt - €56.38
Timing belt tensioner - €92.61
Idler pulley - €31.37
Balance shaft belt - €76.40
Balance shaft tensioner - €43.54
1 oil filter - €13.98
Sump washer - €2.79
Engine oil - €33.75
3 bulbs - €1.50

Total for parts €352.32
Total for labour €460.00
[email protected] €109.66

To be honest I dont know if this is good or bad having never done a major service on a car before.
He did also give me an addendum list of stuff to be done soon. I was hoping to get a few prices, perhaps Sears you could help me out here?
1. Break pads needed soon
2. Front brake disks worn.
3. Rear spring platform - wishbone bushes worn
4. Front wishbone ball joints worn

that's a big service - timing and balancer belts....
No wonder labour is high.

I'm getting mine serviced in the sweep on Friday. Will report back with the costs. Guy in service reckons it should be ~€150..

Got the following done about 2 months ago in Lee Garage in Cork:
Total oil change & new filter:€85.85
Reconditioned Starter:€161.57
New set of front brakes:€73.82
Swinging arm Front left:€149.87
Swinging arm Front right:€144.11
Labour:€265.44
TOTAL=€880.66
V.A.T.=€118.88
Grand total=€999.54.

They also checked a number of things for me like the battery,a few warning lights coming on and so on.
I got a discount on the labour as my family are very good customers of Lee garage, but even without that, for the amount of work done, thats an amazing price.

Well gav you in for a nice bill again with the wishbones as they are a complete unit but I have a source for original equipement at spurious prices if you need a hand getting the parts as even these lads are real Italian heads as they have around 4x155's, 166, unos and ritmos including a 130 abarth so they know their gear....

I got 2 wishbones for my GTV for 40 quid sterling on eBay (for the two!). They wouldn't post to Ireland but I got them sent to my aunts and she brought them home. These were brand new, the company sells loads of them.

Gavin, I see you spent over 300 euro ex VAT for your timing belt bits, I also got these same bits alfa boxed as a kit from Jamie Porter (The Alfa Workshop, independent specialist Alfa Romeo garage and web resource) for less than 150 sterling.....including VAT !

My lesson learned.......don't buy parts over here.......get them in the UK and find a good mechanic to fit them for you (like Dave)

I have just picked up the 155 from Ti. Got the whole exhaust section from the cat converter all the way to the rear replaced.
€282.00 - parts and labour
€38.07 - VAT
€320.07 - Total

He includes the parts and labour as one price on the docket.

Also had her down with Don Baker in Kildare (Alfrom Engineering). Really knows his Alfa's, very good man to know.
€50.00 - Cam Sensor
€150 - labour, it took him a while to figure out and fix problem, bit steep though
€80 - Dyno Run (Engine Diagnostic)
€27.00 - Vat
€307.00 - Total
