Irish Insurance

Just throwing this out there after having a pig of a time with AXA renewing my insurance.
What kind of experience are ye guys getting from the leeches that are insurance companies?
I was with AXA for 10 years and they quoted me €880!!!!Im 35!!! Not 21!I live in Kerry, not exactly downtown L.A.!
They came down to €700 but F.B.D. quoted me €566.
Eagle star/Zurich wouldnt quote me on my 2.0 GT, and I have 2 personal policies with them!
Suffice to say, I left AXA and went with F.B.D..They have all the extras AXA offer and at that price, there was no competition.
I've gotten 10 letters from AXA in the last 3 weeks telling me I'm missing some 'fantastic deals'!CHEEK!
Next letter I get and I'll be ringing them telling them where to go!

Did you try Allianz, they were €100 cheaper than my renewal from One Direct ? AXA were €100 dearer that my renewal for One Direct
I then rang Glennon Insurance, a broker who specialise in group rates for engineers & they sold me the exact same Allianz policy for about €100 cheaper

I tried them all.Allianz were in the middle and wouldnt budge.I had an arguement with some company that was saying my car was a Turbo, so the price will be high.I couldnt get through to them that JTS doesn't mean Turbo.I had to hang up on them!

I did the same with my renewal last year. Quinn quoted me almost €900 for third party, so after I got off the floor I buzzed Glennons who sorted me for €550 with Allianz....fully comp

I know insurance here is crazy. Read in the paper today, while prices of loads of stuff is going down insurance is on the up!

BTW saw a double of your 166 today around here this evening. Haven't seen it before, thought you might've been doing a job up here!

I was reading a thread about UK insurance and one guy who seemed to know his stuff was saying if you fall into a demographic that the companies are focusing on to increase revenue from, your pretty well screwed! No matter what you say, you wont get anywhere with them. Next year they will probably be the cheapest, who knows.

Try AA, the were cheaper for me and for a few of my colleagues than the renewal quotes, even if they stayed with the same company.

I used to get car insurance through a work scheme but they recently got out of the business - they passed our business along however to a broker which market themselves as Low cost car insurance company, 25Plus.ie. Might be worth a look (for those over 25 ). Got my 3.2 covered for €670 (AIG as underlying insurer).

Premiums are definitely starting to turn back up, but they have come down hugely in past 5 years - the industry always goes in cycles of hardening/softening. What really gets my goat though is how age bias is tolerated against youth but not the old i.e. older people get cheap car insurance but couldn't possibly be charged higher healthcare premiums, whereas the young pay expensive car insurance and over the odds for healthcare...

That's seriously cheap for Ireland. I lived in Dungarvan for a few years, was going to re-register my Golf GT TDI until I got an insurance quote.

Just for a laugh I went onto Hibernian for a quote on my old Audi Cabrio 2.6. In Scotland, with 9 years ncb, no accidents/points in 5 years, I got it for £250. My quote with Hibernian was 1500 euro. WTF?!?! I tried a few others and couldn't get a decent one.

I moved back to Scotland about 3 years ago, that's one of the only things stopping me moving back to Ireland, giving up my car Something tells me the Brera would be worse than the Cabby.

I was down in Dungarvan last week, and didn't spot any Brera's or even 159's. It's little surprise with the cost of insurance, you are really being done out of some nice cars.... I do however love the M8, much better than ours

When I lived there I heard there was some company that would give you a cheap deal, but only with a sky high excess, like a grand or something like that? Anyone hear anything about them?

U can set the excess urself with most companies now.Its a quick fix for them really, just showing their doing something for the consumer when they actually are not. That is an excellent price for a brera Rik.Who did u sleep with to get that?lol

Putting your missus on the insurance actually brings it down.Couldnt believe it when I was told to put a female on my policy, any female will do,she doesn't even need a licence! Crazy innit!

Just got a renewal quote from axa! 1575
Holy mother of jeebus!
I got it last year through chill.ie and they've kindly told me that Travelers will do it for 1050.
I guess i cant go wrong there. I'm 27, 7 years no claims, and in a GTA.
I've never even heard of them.
That 25plus crowd wouldnt quote me at all, said i didnt meet the terms of their underwriting.

I would say shop around first. Try Quinn, Tesco, FBD and Setanta (you'll have to go through a broker for setanta)
