Re: Side Repeaters and NCT

I think what Liam156 meant was that so long as, when it flashes, it flashes visibly amber.

So you can have smoked / clear / crystal repeaters so long as they have an amber bulb.

Re: Side Repeaters and NCT

Thanks one other thing that just crossed my mind,
car was de-catted by previous owner, this was not an issue for him as diesels are not tested for emmisions in NI.
However anyone know what the case is here, are diesels tested for emissions, or will i get away without a cat installed?

Re: Side Repeaters and NCT

If it is diesel the cat will not be a problem they only check how much black smoke there is out of the car....

Re: Side Repeaters and NCT

If you can put the boot down and see the car behind you still then your emissions are ok but dont forget to get the belt done as the diesel test is very hard on the engine and you have to sign a letter stating that it was done....

Re: Side Repeaters and NCT

Oh right didn't know that! Belt was done about a year/ 10,000 miles ago.
That explains why they would'nt do the emissions test on my friends A4 last week because there was'nt enough oil in it.

Re: Side Repeaters and NCT

Yeah you must present a diesel engine in a fully serviced state for testing as they are not responsible for engine failure and they can bring the engine to redline and hold it for up to 9 times depending on how the test goes as they normally only do it 3 times....

How stupid id that? You can get penalty points for not having NCT on a car but they don't even have an NCT test for bikes.

Jebus Cripes
So what happens if car goes throught the test on time but fails for some reason or another, meantime while waiting for parts or car to be fixed NCT runs out.
Can the driver be done if this happens?

Re: Side Repeaters and NCT

Not sure. You would hope that once you have a booking date they wont go near you, but I dunno. I wouldn't like to try it out. There's nothing to stop them sitting outside NCT test centres waiting for cars that have just failed for having a headlight slightly out and giving 5 points to the driver. Great country eh?

My NCT due next month, did somebody know if the rattle noise under front car is a big issue? I think my upper wishbone is gone.

Can you recommended a good/cheap garage? as I remember I paid 700 in Alastas Auto for just the belt service (water pump not included) I remember 300 for the parts and 400+ for the service

Upper wishbones will usally make it squeak like a sounds behind the dashboard. A rattle could be an exhaust shield. Depends on when the noise occurs. I usually get parts from Alfa Romeo Parts and Alfa Romeo Spares from EB Spares - Specialist Alfa Parts Dealers
