Where to get 10w40 oil?

As above, anyone know the best (read cheapest) place to get this in the Galway area?

Buy 20 litres out of your local opel dealer as it is cheap enough and top quality....

I can get 16 litres for 140 euro. Agip oil too, have it in the 146 and I was a user of Mobil One before that and well the Agip is much better.

Thanks for the replies.
One other question, might be a bit stupid but anyhoo!
Is there a difference between diesel and petrol engine oil, or is it all the same?

Diesel has more cleansing agents iirc? Detergents to keep the solids in suspension?

Diesel engine oil has more detergency and additives to disolve the soot the engine produces.

And the carbon particulates in suspension are a good lubricant in themselves.

Re: Where to get 10w40 oil?

Is that Magnatec, manails? And if so, where'd you get it ? I thought Magnatec had gone down to 4L containers now too

Oil will be getting changed this weekend and I need to get it asap. Can't be going to Galway on oil that's done >6k miles.

Re: Where to get 10w40 oil?

Yup Magnatec,
Got it in some place in galway, cant remember the name now tho
it wasnt a chain place like Halfords or anything though.
It was a Castrol offer, 5L container for the price of 4L, so id say the same offer should be available elswhere

Re: Where to get 10w40 oil?

Well I got it but it was €38.80 for 4L which was more what I expected. Got it in Southside Motor Factors near Bluebell Ind. Est.

Re: Where to get 10w40 oil?

Fuchs 10/40 semi exceeds the recommended standards and is only around 25 euro for 5L.
I've used it in twinnys for years.

I just dont get all this branding when it comes to oils, there was a guy buying Selenia oil in the Alfa garage when I was there the other day. LMAO at the price, and all because they did some marketing deal with AR

Oil filters are a different story altogether, be sure to get a proper AR one.

Re: Where to get 10w40 oil?

I'm the other way around tbh mo4. I always get Magnatec 10w40 but I get any spurious filter. Then I've been doing that for years too. So looks like both our systems work.

I don't mind scrimping on things like bulbs etc but when it comes to oil & tyres I pay the extra.

Re: Where to get 10w40 oil?

For oils you're paying for the name. They cant sell it unless it meets the minimum standards so you're fairly well guaranteed to get good stuff no matter what. I always look for oils that exceed the standard, regardless of name or brand.

With the filter there's no such controls. Have a look inside a spurious filter and compare with a real one - there's actually bits left out of (some) spurious ones.

I had a 2.0L twinny let go on me 300 miles into a new filter which is why I looked into it and was shocked to see that they didn't bother putting in a release valve.
Engine lunched itself once I went over 6k rpm. Oil starvation to big ends. Engine was well used to 6k rpm with proper filter before that.

btw engine had Magnatec 10w40 in it when it lunched.

Re: Where to get 10w40 oil?

Well co-incidentally enough, the motor factor didn't have a spurious filter for me today so I had to go (literally) next door to Donohoes (FIAT/Alfa dealer) to get it, so this time for the first time in I don't know how long, I have a genuine Alfa filter Probably just in time considering what it'll be doing next weekend in Galway I try and keep my 'baby' below 6,000 revs. No getting away from the fact she's 12 now.

Re: Where to get 10w40 oil?

That is a good brand of filter as I have never seen a problem with them but if possible I use genuine as they are as cheap....

Re: Where to get 10w40 oil?

The Knecht one on the right in this pic is almost identical to the AR supplied one, and they DO have the bypass valve ............. that wasn't in the one I fitted

Any oil filters will do for day to day driving, but if using high revs I go origanal as I believe there is a better flow rate. Also appears to be the case by just looking inside them, btw these filters are for 1.4L up to 2.0L so there's not much margin with the bigger engines...

Nice to see another 155er Bealzbob, not many of us around!
