Got it!

First few klicks with my new used 2002 147...
Interior...
I LOVE that dashboard. Really italian. Red lights, white faces... cool.
Seats: sporty. A bit tight, compared to the grandfather seats of my Rover 75. All in all a compact car, but since I'll drive it to 99% alone, it'll be OK. Steering wheel is ok, feels like it belongs to a car. The Rover's a bit too retro.
Ride...
There is a ride. Rover is a glide, Alfa is more direct.
Engine...
I expected less. The V6 in the Rover is a good, quiet, cultivated machine, but the 1.6 TS is more agile, more direct and soundwise not too bad for a fourpot.

First conclusion...
Better then expected. Hope it keeps up with the good start

Excellent. Good to hear you're enjoying it so far. Hope she looks after you!

Reminds me of Martin Clunes' interview on Top Gear "it had Recaro seats, but I don't have a Recaro arse"

Re: Got it!

Nearly 2m and 'not skinny'. 166 would've been cheaper and more comfy by the sounds of it

I'd love a 166 but the reliability (even for an Alfa) scares me.

Re: Got it!

I have a 166, it's not a city car rather a great cruiser. But when you're on the (German) motorways, using your loud foot, listening to the gargling noise changing into the death shriek of a banshee, you just can't stop smiling....

Re: Got it!

Yeah, but I'm located in Ireland, Republic of, that is.
So a 3 litre is deffo out of ANY question. No way.
And the 156 is probably not much better in the front and I don't give a [email protected] about the back.

Re: Got it!

I live in Ireland too, so next September I'm going to Europe to do the German Alpine route (any advice?) and the Stelvio pass, plus on the way home the Nürburgring (again)
It will be fun driving a 3 liter V6...

Re: Got it!

Advice?
Get a SatNav with traffic updates, as the Motorways are clogged, these days.
Stick to the speed limit, if you get caught it's on-the-spot fines and if you can't pay, they might keep the car as guarantee until you pay.
Don't break the two-second-rule, they are currently positively enforcing it.
Use the motorway for long-distance only and go for smaller roads instead. Won't let you cover the distance quickly, but might be a better driving and more fun, as motorways are infested with HGVs.

In the Alps... my favourite is the Sella round. Don't do it on a weekend and it might be a little late in the year.

Nurburgring... even after lotsa laps there, it still scares the **** out of me. Take care. You will have buses, motorbikes and whatever on your track. If you finally think, you've got it - you don't. That's the most dangerous time. If you think you've got it - do it again, slowly and see if you really got it. Most of the time, you dont.
Trust me, I've totalled a race car during a long-distance race. It was my 70'ish lap that year and 200'ish in total and I still got it wrong.

So much for the ring...

Re: Got it!

Will do as soon as I have her washed and polished.
BTW, she comes in a dark blue with a metal flake metallic effect. Haven't seen a second one in her color yet....
