Idiot question

Am looking at moving upwards from my 166TS and was hoping to get the FL model. Only one in Ireland is private sale and has been up for ages, I'd like to buy from a dealer, i.e. trade in the current car (my experiences of private sales have left me disillusioned and exhausted and I'm not in the form to start trying to sell a 166 privately considering how most seem to hang around for mnths on carzone.).

I have had very little dealings with dealers and not 100% of mode of work, but is it possible to approach a garage with a trade in and specify what you'd like and see if they can source it?

By the way I checked VRT on 10k FL 166 TS for sale in UK and they're giving OMSP as 21k euro, quoting 6K for VRt, nasty.

Re: Idiot question

166 FL is as rare as hen's teeth over here. I would still try the import route, especially with GBP/EUR so favourable, but I guess you would need to get it registered before July 1......

This looks good

Re: Idiot question

If the car is prior to July (eg manufactured prior to JULY) which I presume it is you will be ok....but if you are buying from uk 6k vrt is not too bad .... whole lotta car for that imho. Good luck with search..

Re: Idiot question

There are 3 facelift Alfa 166's for sale in Veloces of London, colours silver, grey and navy blue. The facelift 166 was a stunning car imo and is very very rare in this country. I have only seen one on Irish roads a metallic wine coloured one in Ballsbridge on the night of an Irish soccer International. There was one for sale in Cork for a while on Car Zone, I think it was Old Chapel Motors who were selling it, so theres a least 2 in the Republic of Ireland!!!

Eh?

Pre July 1, VRT is based on engine size.
After July 1, VRT is based on emissions.

Date of manufacture is irrelevant for calculating VRT.

Re: Idiot question

Yeah I think that its date of import that determines the VRT, but original date of registration that determines the motor tax rate.

Thats my understanding of the new VRT "rip-off Republic" rules also, "Herodutus" you better get a move on to acquire that FL 166

Re: Idiot question

Financially, it doesn't look like I'll be moving on to anything newer

My understanding of the changes is anything registered after july 1st is to have new VRT and tax regime applied, though I see the Green Party and SIMI can't seem to agree
