Hmmm, wouldn't be too sure of Jap tyres the lads who buy cars in from Japan generally change them as they are meant to be not as good as European made food.

They do parts for Jap cars Damien, the tyres are brand names like Falken, Toyo etc.

Re: Anyone in the market for Tyres ????

Know of somone who uses this site and is impressed.

But......all well and good to order your tyres online, but do you have someone to fit them? Plenty of discussion on Boards, I (Redsoxfan) suggested that people post places where they have got tyres bought online fitted, but no takers.

eiretyres do have a list on their site, but apparently some of the places mentioned claimed they have never heard of eiretyres!

That is also another reason I wouldn't be mad on them. Trying to get them fitted no tyre fitter is up for that.

I know of 2 places in Bandon that will fit tyres for you if you bring along your own.

Re: Anyone in the market for Tyres ????

Glad to hear it-unfortunately a trip to Bandon would nearly cancel out any price differential if I bought online and travelled down.

tosullivan has got tyres fitted by someone in Leixlip before I think-I'll definitely be investigating buying my own tyres online when the time comes to change later in the year.

Re: Anyone in the market for Tyres ????

I only buy my tyres from them, I was a tyre fitter at Costco for 2 years so I had no problem getting them fitted and for price even Costco couldn't match them.

Usually next day delivery too.

I am based in Aberdeen so I can't say what it would be like for you guys/gals in Ireland, but I would still think it would be quick.

Re: Anyone in the market for Tyres ????

Some of the online tyre sales sites (my tyres is one I think) have a tyre fitter finder that identifies places near you that will fit tyres bought on line. Haven't tried it though.

Re: Anyone in the market for Tyres ????

May be a bit late, but I never had any issue with Jap tyres. We used Toyo tyres on our racing cars in the German Touring Car Long Distance runs and they were fine even on the Nuerburgring.

Can't say anything about Falken, but I know that they have at least 2 different lines, one is for the US and those are horrible...

Bridgestones are the best you can get. Use them on every wheel I can fit them on, Motorbike, Car... whatever.

I meant actually Japanse tyres. Ie the ones that come from cars imported from Japan that are second hand. I have Yokohama Parada Spec II's in my house waiting to go onto the car and my Dad loves Bridgestone RE 050A's on his car.

Re: Anyone in the market for Tyres ????

Lads,
I used them last week...tyres shipped in a day and used a guy in Maynooth to fit them for €15/wheel and he takes the old tyre.
I got 4 x Falken FK452 225/40/18 for €325 shipped.

Can't beat that anywhere

I used Camskill Performance this morning to purchase 2 x Falken FK452 215/45/17, not only were they the cheapest outlet I could find at 63.90 inc vat each the shipping cost for 2 tyres was only 4.90.

I called them about an hour after placing the order to check they had them in stock and they had already been packed and the courier notified.

I can not recommend them highly enough.

I have used both Camskill and eiretyres, both excellent and both have some makes that the others didnt have. Camskill were slightly cheaper in general. Recommend them to everyone I know.

Will be in the market for a new set of tyres in coming month of so. Got the following quotes from a Kwick Fit over the weekend (235/45/R18 98Y (if I remember correctly off the top of my head)):

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A - 255 a corner
Pirelli P zeros - 255
Michelin Pilot Sport - 335

So a few hours reading threads and checking out eirtyres and camskill ended up with the following options:

Toyo T1R Proxes - 111
Kumho KUSI Ecsta Sport - 105
Continental Sport - 161
Potenzas - 204
P zeros - 218

Any thoughts/recommendations, particularly with the Toyos/Kumhos - if the reviews are true, it seems like a good option to save 50% (or much more vs offline purchase)?

Toyo's are all good, wore very quickly though but i'd still get them again. Really good in the dry especially. Running Vredestein Ultracs at the mo, really recommend em, excellent in both dry and wet.

So far I've used Bridgestone, Michelin, Pirelli, BF goodridge, Hankook, Toyo and Yokohama on my Alfas.
For me Hankook were by far the worst, followed closely by Pirelli.
Toyo are the best of the lot, but beware they do wear away very quickly. Yokos wern't bad either but cost a few quid more iirc.

Toyo Tr1's are very good on my car and were at a good price. Off a local tyre dealer.
