Not a bad start to the year, & Giulia numbers will probably increase during the next few months as factory orders start to get delivered

All the Giulias are diesel? Mother of mercy, people must be doing astronomical mileage in Ireland. Its certainly not the tax that should be putting people off petrol. Although I guess all of the Giulias on forecourts are diesel so petrols would be factory orders.

Yes I'd say we will see more petrol Giulias registered once the factory orders start to come through

Was told today by dealer that my Guilia is at "status 35" which means it's being shipped at the moment. Anything from 2 days to 2 weeks. 2.0 petrol, not diesel !

Was with the dealer yesterday, a red petrol SL there for sale and a black petrol SS ready for collection. The red looked classy and the black more aggressive I thought. Should have mine this week.

Yep, looks like everyone commutes from the countryside...in Dublin, as 50% of the Giulia were sold here

Besides the obvious "the diesels were ready to deliver" point, the motorist's love affair with diesel will take time to finally die out. I was recently in Italy and people are still buying diesel cars by the dozens, especially significant as they are mostly cars that make zero sense as diesels - we're not talking about Mondeo or Passat cruisers, we're talking about bottom-of-the-line Panda, Fabia and Clio; Cars that, by definition, are school-and-supermarket runners. Most of them don't even drive enough in a day to properly warm up.

A lot of people just have the ingrained "diesel is better" concept, you'll hear it everywhere; They have no idea about the modern turbocharged petrol engines - or even worse, associate them with the fuel-hungry, hot-hatch propelling monsters of the 1980s'. All they care about it the fuel consumption figure and the price at the pump...

I had a 156 selespeed. Loved it. But couldn't enjoy driving it and achieve more than 30 mpg. Have a 2.4 jtd since new in 2003, and I love driving it, and getting 45 mpg. For 250,000 miles. With at least a 10% saving on the pump price, coupled with 50% better mileage, it just makes sense. Reports seem to indicate Giulia 2.0 petrols giving 30-32 mpg, and diesels doing 45ish, hence new diesel 180 on the way. I'm not sure anything has really changed in terms of economy in 14 years. I cannot justify running a petrol, even if it drove as well as a QF. Which it doesn't. As for the Italians, they love small cars, and they do big mileage in them.

Nice to see it's not only diesel Giulia's being sold. Looks like a roughly 40/60 split in favour of diesels so far this year.
