Re: Single after 13 years.....

I'm not going into detail on a public forum, but there was no bad behaviour on either side. Just a straightforward split, but I'm gutted, didn't see it coming at all. She's left, I'm gonna try to keep on the house by myself. After so long, it's gonna take a bit of getting used to!

Not married, and no kids, so it'll be a lot easier than it could have been, but still..........

13 years. Long time. It must be tough if you didn't expect it. I hope you're OK.

Luckily, yes, parents are 10 minutes away and lots of mates nearby too so alone definitely doesn't mean lonely, thanks chaps

Re: Single after 13 years.....

13 years doesn't sound too casual, ZF

Off down the pub with you Ode, after phoning a friend for some company. Not too heavy on the juice though, just mild anaesthetisation.

Re: Single after 13 years.....

Got too many in the family suffering the same, and the prolongation of the events has been distressing, and in my brothers case, darned expensive. So, kit together and crash out for a new location if possible. Not easy, but in the long run for the best, or so I have found it to be.:

Re: Single after 13 years.....

with respect to what ZF has said...

when you break up with someone, one of the fall outs is the immediate insecurity/the need to know your 'market worth'. From experience, i would say, don't go out to 'calculate' it. You might meet someone for one night who'll fulfill that query; but all it'll ultimately do, is compound just how much you miss the one you love.

i learnt that lesson myself - and it is not a pleasant discovery to make :-(

Indeed, no 'rebound' stuff. If it really is final, time to 1st grieve, then readjust. Then, finally, reassess and move forward. It will be bloody painful though.

Sorry to hear this mate, it sounds like it was amicable though so not all bad? Now you can go out and spend all your money on a ludicrous car

Re: Single after 13 years.....

...and don't underestimate how long it takes:

there's you before the relationship and everything that you were, then there's:
> you during the relationship
>>you grieving post-relationship
>>>you, recovered...but affected.

And who are you now? you're no longer the 'you' before you had the relationship; you're 'sort of' you, albeit now with a buckled wheel - every now and then you have a little wobble.

It takes time to get fixed.

But it's the best way to deal with these matters.

Hang in there Ode, this'll all pass.

Re: Single after 13 years.....

It's good if you have something you can 'immerse' yourself in, too.

When I had a bit of a life crisis about 10 years ago, with sleeplessness, panic attacks and the like, the cycling was there for me, I upped the mileage. A physical outlet is good, if you are lucky enough to have one.

Music can be good too, although you must be careful what you listen to.

Re: Single after 13 years.....

Did the marriage guidance counselling, and realised this was not the answer, so went out and joined one of those meet me organisations. Met a good selection, and ended up going out with a friend of one who I had originally been introduced to. Finally went and joined a Dancing Club, bought myself a new wardrobe, and some toys, including a new motor, and started to forget. Moved into a flat, and seriously had one coming in the back door, as one left the front.: All is not lost mate, just re-start as and when you are able. Time is the factor which needs coming to terms with, as soon as you are able.:
