Madness Croydon Crushes LEGALLY parked cars!!

Anybody see Watchdog the other night.

Local Authorities made £24m last year from what they euphemistically call "parking measures"

Croydon, and another council removed legally parked cars whilst people were on holiday..didn't check their status with the DVLA..then crushed them before the owner got back....THEN claimed they had acted within their legal rights FFS

The MEP for Birmingham got a parking fine in Brum for parking on a single yellow at a time when it is usually considered legal. She got done, and could find no notices outlining parking restrictions in the area. Birmingham City Council was unrepentant, but she is one of many caught out by their tactics.

My conclusion..they are barstewards

P.S. don't overstay by a second in Harrogate on street parking. You have been warned!!

As an HGV driver delivering to shops down poky town roads. anybody parked illegely should be towed away and scrapped. on more than one occasion my trailer has moved and fooked an illegally parked car, I dont care.Any body with half a brain doesn't park on a corner or lines. They are there for a reason.when ever i have to deliver into town centres i always remove the number plate from my trailer.I have done this for the last 10 yrs and i will continue to fook cars on corners. This sounds harsh, but i have'nt got time to go looking for the occupants.

No, smash them to pieces mate, far too many cluttering the highways and byways as it is. Get them off the road, by hook or by crook, the less the merrier we shall be.

Re: Croydon Crushes LEGALLY parked cars!!

my car got clamped today in an underground car park in town. fair enough, i'm not supposed to be there as i don't lease a space but i know the code for the shutter door. but the release fee was £200!!! luckily it was the owner of the building who gave me the door code so one quick phonecall to him, a quick half hour with the paper and a pint in the pub and hey presto the clamp had gone

but local authorities are an absolute joke, how they can say their parking operations are about anything other than revenue is beyond belief 10 years ago you could park down any central manchester backstreet and expect to get ticketed maybe once a month. these days it's absolutely GUARANTEED you'd be ticketed every single day such is the proliferation of the little parking hitlers with their 'orrible red caps & sh*tty attitude

The message is, car ownership is to be reduced, one way or the other. It'll take a long while to happen, but it will, as sure as eggs is eggs, so get ready.:

indeed. a congestion charge for manchester (anywhere inside the M60) has been all but rubber stamped. so the rich keep driving to work in their range rovers and bentleys whilst the nurses/cleaners/shop workers/waitresses/firefighters/office staff are forced onto antiquated unreliable public transport. the manchester hoi polloi will love it, they'll be able to get to kendals & king street in no time with the roads to themselves

Yeah! but how long will the rich stay so, on the backs of the rest of society, before they too are restricted one way or the other?:

Who scratched your tachograph

If you re-read my post you will se they were parked perfectly legally. Both cases were outside their own houses, with valid tax, in designated parking bays...whats your beef at that?

I used to work on the production line at YORK trailers when I was a student, building those 40 ft behemoths..I'd put the bloody lot on the train personally..which is apt as the east coast main line went right past the factory..which is now shut

Re: Croydon Crushes LEGALLY parked cars!!

as truck driver i wholeheartedly agree, cars parked illegally are a sodding knightmare, i used to deliver to hospitals and the parking is a joke, they abandon their cars anywhere, fine if you dont want your drugs, no skin off my nose.at one hospital i used to go 2 twice a week there was always the same car parked on double yellows and right in the way, i complaned about it on a regular basis until they finally did something about it, they removed the double yellows and painted a parking space for the car problem solved blue badge cars are the worst though, yes i realise the need to park nearer to everything but your car is still blocking the way, having a blue badge doesnt mean it isnt in the way.

if any council crushed my car when legally parked id crush their heads with a brick.

The problem I have is that lorries keep pranging legally parked cars down my road. the road isn't big enough for them.

Whilst we were at the Thruxton Cloverleaf trackday, my friend's 147 had it's rear bumper completely removed by a lorry delivering fruit juice (apparently) to the local bakery. They weren't insured either!!!

Rules are rules - you know what they are. If you don't want a ticket, park legally.

The real problem is that it used to be economical to break the rules in the past, surely, not that they are actually enforced now.

Yes, car usage will have to be squeezed even to make the trend in usage level out. The EIFMUS estimates that by 2011 if all the cars we owned were parked end to end, the resulting queue would stretch to ***** Centauri (if it was just Italian cars it would be Alfa Centauri, obviously). Just about everybody accepts now that building new roads just shifts the congestion about.

The point about the regressive nature of congestion charges etc is a fair one, but it's hard to see a way around it. If there was a way, it would be dangerously socialist anyway.

"Socialism is the answer! I've been telling people this for years!"

As a holder of a Politics Degree, I have heard this word 'Socialism' many times in many contexts. I've never met two people who can agree what it is exactly, and I've never seen it put into practice by those who shout about it most.( Robert Mugabe for example is a Russian trained socialist....believe it or not)

Having shared houses with members of both the International Marxist Group..and their hated opposite numbers..The Socialist Workers Party at one time or another in the 70s you eventually realise what a bunch of workshy ******s they are, as they merrily stabbed both their own colleagues and each other in the back. Disfunctional was a word that would apply admirably to many of those I encountered in Leeds. Some were just plain dishonest..like the one who did a moonlight flit from the house owing at least £150..lot of money in 1978, and he was in a reasonable job.

As you can tell I liked them immensely

As a holder of a politics degree, it hardly seems worthy to dismiss a political ideology by looking at the behaviour of a small number of people who claimed to subscribe to that ideology. Surely you might actually posit a sensible critique of the idiology itself? Or is that a bit too much like political science for you?

Well that's hardly surprising. No-one understands capitalism yet do they? Otherwise we'd all be rich, and there'd be no boom and bust - right?

What exactly is a "trained Socialist"? Is it like ballroom dancing....?

Aye! Socialist paradise is what we want... we could all get to drive around in old Fiat models, re-branded as Ladas and made in Togliatti, in the foothills of the Ural mountains!

Or old pre-Socialista models (as they do in Cuba) like blinged up old Range Rovers.

Nobody would have parking problems then - we'd all be unemployed and unable to afford petrol.

I have said this somewhere here before:

"After the revolution comrade, we will all drive round in red Breras"

Re: Croydon Crushes LEGALLY parked cars!!

Given the ranting and maoning that goes on in our current capitalist driven world, and the rich getting fat off the hard work of the poor, it's obvious that the current status quo isn't working.

So we need a change!!!!!!!

The fact is, whether a car is parked legally or not, it may well still be causing an obstruction. No one has the right to park on the road, and shouldn't if alternatives are readily available...
