Headlights

7 o'clock this morning - pitch black - pouring with rain - Transit van driving on unlit A31 in Dorset just on sidelights
I just can't understand the stupidity of some drivers but maybe the word Transit explains everything......

Re: Headlights

I almost always use dipped headlights since a minor prang on some snow (my fault and bent my belover Fiat Coupe sadly). the isnurance form had an entry specifically on what lights you were showing. it struck me straight away how useful it would be to be able to put "proper ones".

Also, in fog, you often see the car before you see sidelights.

Re: Headlights

Why would he need lights? He could see where he was going..

We get them around here, usually people in white cars driving in fog with no lights.

I dont know whats worse!?!?

Driving in no fog with foglights on = blind everyone else on the road
Driving in for with no foglights on = nearly kill everyone else on the road!

Re: Headlights

Has anyone noticed how many HGV drivers have bad eyesight? Nearly all around here seem to have to drive with two sets of headlights on (or are they their version of foglights?).

Another latest fashion is to cover the front of the lorry in coloured lights especially blue ones - I always thought that showing a blue light was illegal on anything but emergency vehicles I wonder how they get thro the HGV test like that?

I've wondered that myself, and these bleedin' neons (normally seen underneath a 1 litre Corsa-makes 'em sooperfast) are equally dodgy, or so i'd been led to believe

Re: Headlights

I had a bit of a related thing once in my old X1/9. As we know, the electrics were designed by the Prince of Darkness. I was in a convoy of a couple of ther X1/9s having been on a nice little Jaunt to visit their daddy's place in Torino (now going **** up, sadly). Anyway, it ran like a dream all the way there and most of the way back. Then, I was trundling up a crowded M6 on or about the speed limit in the middle lane overtaking the usual lorries and stuff, when the reversing lights suddenly came on entirely of their own volition. I first gathered something was happening when the Sierra (this wan't yesterday) that was tailgating me suddenly did 100 meters or so on its front number plate with its back end in the air and disappeared rapidly backwards. then I saw a sort of glow (the reversing lights on that car were really quite bright).

I pulled on the hard shoulder as soon as I could. All manner of gearstick wiggling, and all of my favourite expletives, made no difference and in the end I had to stick insulation tape over them. I got home OK (reversing lights on all the way), and had another look next morning. They were off, and working normally in reverse gear. I tried all sorts of wiggling again, and puring buckets of water over the gearbox, but could't make it happen again, and it never happened again on its own. I wonder what the Sierra driver made of it. There's probably a post on some forum somewhere about this maniac who once tried to blind me on the mororway...

Italian cars, eh?
