Dry lips

Well, I hate putting lip balm on so I am now stuck with dry lips that crack open every time I smile (not a lot these days anyways ). The self-moisturising I do (you can imagine how ) makes me look like a hungry guy or a perv (or both really ).

So, here it goes: I hate dry lips

Ahhhh, feel better now

Re: Dry lips

Ha ha! Yeah you have to get all 'Metrosexual'.

Not that I would know, or have never used it myself, but allegedly the Nivea range of lip balms are pretty ok.

...allegedly.

Re: Dry lips

Mine got pretty bad the other week when I had a cold. Got to the stage where if I smiled I bled down my chin.
Get some Blistex, it's like a less girly version of balm, and works really well.
I do agree though, I hate the greasy feeling when you've put the stuff on

Re: Dry lips

Vit B3, B12, as an extra, seems to have helped my cracked lips. Haven't used the 'Chap Stick' balm for a couple of winters past.:

I've heard that stuff is good for your libido as well, ZF, not that you'd need any help in that department of course...

Re: Dry lips

petro-chemical 'salves' such as vaseline etc that use paraffin or alcohol as their base will actually dry out your lips more as they evaporate although they relieve symptoms in the short term by coating the dry skin. get down your local health food/lentil emporium and buy some bee's wax based balm - eg. lips 'bee' healthier aloe and beeswax lip balm by Jason products. As a lifelong ecszema/dry skin sufferer this stuff is the best i've found. As time goes on your skin will 'learn' to hydrate itself and you'll need less of it and there's no shiny, greasy film all over ya gob either!

Re: Dry lips

Dooster, are you saying that beeswax stuff is good for ecszema too?
Mrs Bazza sometimes gets a ecszema/dermatitis problem on her hands which can be really painful, and even though she uses a prescribed product, it doesn't seem to help so much.
Can you recommend anything you think might be worth trying?

Re: Dry lips

Bazza, there's a product range called Burt's Bee's. They have a hand balm which is bees wax based. It's pretty good. I get or used to get bad ecszema on my hands where the skin would literally start falling off It can be hard to find though. Any health food shop should stock Jason products, it's just a case of checking the ingredients to make sure that it doesn't contain alcohol. Check the web also.
It can be worth checking on dietary issues as well. I found/find that milk & dairy products spark off a bout of ecszema for me so i gave up milk. My problems went virtually overnight. I've switched to rice milk for cereals which means that i can still have milk in tea and cheese It's quite spooky, if i have milk on cereal then the ecszema returns. Milk/dairy is suspect number 1 in ecszema cases and the only way to check is to ban all dairy for 2 weeks and see what happens.
Hope this helps

Re: Dry lips

Cheers Dooster. Although I don't think my wife could cut out dairy products, she'd starve
Will definitely look out for the beeswax thingy for her though.

Go out and kiss a cows arse, it won't cure the chapped lips, but at least you won't be tempted to lick them.
