Labour are screwed

Emgee's Second Law of Politics states that all governements ultimately enter a "cones hotline" phase. This is characterised by ineffective crisis management, pointless initiatives that are supposed to catch the public attention, general slow-footedness, and a prevailing impression of staleness and tiredness in politicians. A pervading feeling of "Oh, just sod off, will you" accompanies this in the electorate.

Gordon and his homies are firmly into this phase and their parliamentary majority, which used to be called "Scotland", is evaporating before their very eyes.

The slowdown or recesion that is looming will out the old tin hat firmly on it. Soon, we will have the entertaining spectacle of a Tory government ripping itself to shreds over Europe and immigration once again, while changuing nothing.

All together now... Happy days are here again....

Re: Labour are screwed

Don't you think Blairs exit timing was perfect.

Everything has turned to poo in his wake, none of it sticks to him, and yet it was all happening under him.

We have spent more shoring up Northern Crock than we spend on our entire defence budget....Think about it when the next soldier gets killed for want of kit or reinforcements..whilst the recently gone boss of Northern Rock sold his shares before hand and bought a big house and a Ferrari for his wife.

Are you wondering that I got ****ed off working in financial services.

Re: Labour are screwed

The Labour Party were screwed from the very moment that they installed Blair as leader.

He won them votes from middle England, traditional Tory voters who we're sick of the bedroom antics of their own party filling the headlines, and wanted a new approach.

Who better than a 'New' Labour, a Labour that was willing to embrace the centre right of the country, albeit at the cost of it's socialist roots.

Now these core socialist voters were happy to continue voting for LAbour, as they had done for generations. They were glad to have a party which finally looked like seizing power after years under the cruel hand of Thatcher and the imbecilic reign of Major.

Little did they know they were just going to get another right wing Tory party in control of the country, only this time they were wearing red rosettes instead of blue.

As the years have passed, and those core socialist voters quickly realised that New Labour are as far from their socialist heritage as could possibly be, they've stopped voting altogether, or gone to independant parties. And the middle England tories have realised that Camerons conservatives have actually fought back as a result of the socialist departure of New Labour, so they're no jumping back to their old ship.

New Labour are left with nothing, no floating voters, and they've alienated all their core support too.

All because they were willing to go against their traditional agenda in order to seize a few years in the sun.

As a proud socialist I'd rather support a 'real' Labour party who provide strong opposition, than a pretend Labour party who just follow the same Thatcherite path that's failed us for the last 3decades.

But the 'real' Labour party is a thing of the past

Re: Labour are screwed

Labour have definately run their course, time to let the new guy run the country. Nothing much will change, but would be good if the conservatives could reduce the massive tax burden labour have lumped on the middle classes.

True...

Because the government have lost our bank details, does this mean I'll still get e-mails asking for account numbers so the Bank of Liberia can transfer cash I'm owed, or will they just pay it in ?

I know, I know, I am still waiting for my Nigerian "cousin" to transfer $14 million due to me, as mentioned earlier this year. I'll ask Alistair Darling if he can help. No, hold on, why don't I ask kind Africa loving Mr. Blair to use his influence and help out, for a suitable commission, of course. Then I can donate $2 million to the Labour Party, get a title, register as a Non Dom taxpayer. Oh dear, better hurry before they are kicked out.

How will they reduce it though? They sure as hell won't lump it onto the upper classes, since that's where the tories get their backing.

Oh I know, they'll stuff the lowest earners in the country, like every other government always has done......

I personally like the idea of a two term only prime minister like they do a two term president in the USA. At least we could have gotten rid of Blair earlier!

They've been doing the slea\e and law breaking pretty much from Day 1.

Their cash for access (Mr Draper), bungs Bernie e, Powderjet, Hindujas etc, loans for honours just wasn't reported in the same way as some of the Tories sleaze, which other than Atkin and Hamilton was really just personal disasters.

Re: Labour are screwed

I know all political parties are screwed and corrupt, but after 10 years in power you need a change, whether it be labour Tory or liberal, just get in new ideas, and to help steer the country back on course.

Tony Blair did get out at the correct time, he wasn't totally daft.
Having said that, I have always regarded, Gordon Brown as a ******, and think he deserves all of this trouble, even if the country doesn't.

The saving grace is that if we had had an election and labour had lost, the coming economic down turn would have been blamed on the tories.

We still have at least 2 years of this bumbling idiot in charge though...

Probably, but not entirely sure I'd put my own money on that. Depends on what else is lurking around the corner, and the corner after that. As soon as the back benches really begin to smell fear, absolutley anything could happen, just depends of we reach that threshold.

Just so's ye know - Labour have a majority of 64 seats in Westminster, including 39 Scottish seats. So they have a working majority of 25 when you exclude their Scottish seats.

Also, the great unwashed had three chances to ditch Blair and didn't take them, even although they knew Brown is probably what they would end up with.

Anyway, I agree they are holed below the water line, yey!
