Boxing Batman v Superman - Why?!

I thought Hollywood had reached the nadir of moronic mashups when they did Aliens Vs Predators (why the hell intergalactic big game hunters would want to hunt a xenomorphic parasite on earth is totally beyond me; for a start the alien's head wouldn't be a very good prize, the corrosive blood would make a real mess of the trophy cabinet...)

But no, they've gone one stage further - Batman v Superman. It's hard to imagine what flimsy excuse they'll use to get the two fighting; both have plenty enough contacts and technology to know they're on the same side, and I can't imagine either of the experienced crimefighters falling for a line from Lex LuthorJoker. All I can think is Superman must have accidentally melted Batman's lunch with his laser eyes, so Batman gave him a wedgie in return (remarkably easy to do with Superman).

I mean, c'mon, I know modern hollywood's not always very good on plots (see Battleship, Aliens v Predators or Transformers for examples) but this really is taking the biscuit. Strangely enough I'm not planning to see it, even when it's being shown on E4 6 months after it's bombed in the box office.

The train :(

I am looking at Pride and Prejudice vs zombies, or whatever it's called, as the point at which the film "industry" can sink no lower.

You get that both Alien v Predator and Batman v Superman are canon, with graphic novels about them predating the films by a good 14 years for the former, and 30 years for the latter, right?

Can't blame Hollywood for either of those mashups.

I think with Superman vs Batman, superman is a non-human from krypton who has super-human powers, he is all powerful and is essentially unstoppable, earth and humans are no match and therefore he can do as he pleases for god or for evil. Batman on the other hand is a human being with a moral compass serving to protect his fellow citizens. He sees superman as someone who needs to be reigned in and 'controlled' perhaps. I think its a decent premise, but I have no idea how the two worlds of Batman and Superman collide.

It's quite a similar premise in fact to the Marvel Civil War idea, the film of which is coming out soon (and again, based in a graphic novel story arc which is ages old.)

If someone has that much power, do they need to be controlled by someone 'normal' to stop them being able to abuse it? You might wonder whether it's intended to be allegorical.

Batman/Superman team-ups are as old
as the comics.

In Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns
there is a similar Batman vs Superman theme.

Yeah, that's the one I was referencing with my 30 years. 1986 it was released.

Can't say I'm particularly versed in comic lore, but according to Wikipedia the whole Aliens Vs Predator thing was dreamed up long after either of the original films, and after Ridley Scott released Prometheus, doesn't that make the whole novel / comic creation non-canon?

I'll give you the Batman v Superman thing for the 1986 reinvention, but they'd been friends / comrades from 1952 to 1985, were friends again from 2003 onwards, and I really don't get that whole infinite earths thing - way too confusing for me.

Maybe I should write a 'Predators vs Hello Kitty' graphic novel and see if Hollywood picks it up

AVP was part of Dark Horse comics' Aliens and Predator
comicbook adaptations. Circa 1990s iirc.

That's a great film! Half of grang hill, half of east Enders, a few nobodies and brick top from Lock stock.... It is so bad it's good!

Batman v superman looks and sounds massively pants. I'd rather see peppa pig in a UFC dust up.

It's what happens when copyright expires - people can do whatever they like and nobody forces you to watch any adaptation or *******isation of any work of fiction.

Look what has happened recently with the final expiry of copyright on the Sherlock Holmes stories. Suddenly you have a series of movies, an American TV-series adaptation and the great modernised one made in the UK with Benedict Cumberbatch.

Copyright laws simply stifle creativity.

The critics hate it, and so do the fans judging by online reviews

Sounds like it's basically a bunch of explosions and the trailers for 20 new movies stapled together with no attempt at making a plot to hold them together.
