Charley Boorman and Ewan MacGregor

Am I just being a miserable old scrote, or do others also think that these two guys are merely pampered rich kids on whom a trip of the type they envisage is utterly wasted ? I suppose the fact that they are also making a TV documentary about it does have a big impact, but I did trips like this donkey's years ago and with virtually none of the preparation of these two,who , amongst other things, attended survival schools, security courses etc.etc. - never mind obtaining commercial premises big enough for a largeish factory ! Not only that, but what about MacGregor's wife ( who had never ridden a ferking motorbike before ! ) stating that she also wants to go on the trip ! For crying out loud !!

Re: Charley Boorman and Ewan MacGregor

yep its you!

personally I think they're great, I liked the first trip they did, and I like this one, brilliant TV, and I like the pair of them, as for a pair of pampered rich kids, well I know nothing of Charlie but Ewan appears to be fairl;y 'normal' regardless of his personal wealth, at least when he went to have his leg x rayed etc it appeared to be at a 'normal' A&E and not a private clinic.

The stuff they're undertaking I expect is down to legal items in the contracts and for their own personal safety, things have changed somewhat since 'you did' this type of thing. However I agree about his wife doing the part with them, to me that is a liability.

But good TV and both of the guys are likeable.

Re: Charley Boorman and Ewan MacGregor

Think you failed to notice that he is also raising a not inconsiderable sum of money for UNICEF.

There is nothing at all pretentious about those involved on either this trip or the previous Long Way Round. They are also giving a lot of people an opportunity to see/experience places they will never dream of going.

You want to lambast someone for doing something wasted, try doing it to the FUD's known as 'The Beckhams'. Everything they do is wasted, including breathing oxygen.

And your bicycle trip in 1967 across London to Camden Market hardly constitutes a trip like this

what andy said!

both of them were bike nuts from being young kids so why not! what they're doing is hardly a walk in the park and i'm sure they'll hardly be staying in 5 star hotels every night. if they raise money for unicef, highlight some of the difficulties facing africa at present, and bring a big smile to some african kids' faces in the process then i say good luck to 'em

They are a bit self absorbed, but then they are actors.

It's good entertainment too.

Loved that Moto Guzzi Griso MacGregor was riding in London.

Damn - missed it. When is it next on?
Seems strange to 'diss' these two stout fellows and leave the likes of Big Brother contestants unchallenged.
Someone needs a sense of perspective methinks.

If you're gonna watch celebs on TV, these 2 seem likeable and their escapade a rather interesting one for many reasons. A thumbs up from me. And compared to the BB and Get Me Out Of Here crap on TV, a welcome diversion!

If I had their money I'd be doing the same thing. More power to them.

Yep - great TV and a couple of honest guys (they're not afraid of getting their hands dirty either). I don't know Ewan but I have worked in the town he was born and brought up in - he's very highly thought of there and still gets himself involved in local events.

Re: Charley Boorman and Ewan MacGregor

I haven't followed it but Ewan is a genuine bike nut.

I think he is still pretty normal for a star. He's become mates with the owners of the small aerosols factory where MrsJim works and he is an absolute league of wealth above them but he's been on trackdays with them, stayed over at theirs and even wore their "Yoshimoto" brand logos on his leathers FOC as a favour I think. They have some photos up in the offices.

The other one is a bit up himself in real life when he's talking to the plebs, so I've heard, especially if you don't know who he is - as was the case with the person who told me this.
