Met my mate with his 40 tonner, in a transport cafe the other day, just for a natter about old times. He was a 65 ton Conqueror driver, aamongst other cabbies he had in the past. We had both been in the same traffic jam, on the M1 caused by what appeared to be a foreign big truck shoving a couple of cars down the bank.
Anyway, me'mate is the same age as myself, but I'm blowed if I could wheedle a rig the size of his into the spaces in those transport cafes.
He was, and still is I guess, a born driver, but best of all, a lifetime mate.
He reckons that he gets pulled into lay-byes less frequently now, for checks, as the concentration seems to be on foreign hauliers, keeps him a bit happier. Never could drive like him, a natural.
