Drift Racing

Ooooooh it makes me so cross!!!

An utter waste of time and poles away from what, IMO, racing is all about. Drifting is more like dressage than steeplechasing. Cars drift of course, and sometimes it's because of the limits of tyre adhesion, sometimes because of track conditions, sometimes deliberate to square the corner a bit. But to have a race using special tyres with deliberately limited grip? Utter bloody nonsense! I've raced on both two and four wheels (without much success!) and wanted my tyres to grip and communicate, not slide my back end out before I've even turned into the corner!

I freely admit that it takes skill and is fun to do, but it's NOT proper racing! All it achieves is leaving a load of rubber on the circuit which can be a real hazard in the wet, especially for bikes.

Ooooooooorrrrrrrrrh!!!

I would challenge you to have a go in my Nephews Nissan Skyline drifter....That would change your opinion as to how much fun it is.
You'll be telling us next F1 is interesting.

Ha-ha, it would take wild horses to get me in to a Skyline! But yes, I agree with you that it's fun 100%. It just has very little to do with racing.

As for F1 being interesting? Well, I'd rather beat my head wafer thin with a meat tenderiser than watch F1.... I worked in Motorsport at Silverstone for years and hold the view that for the most part the only races in F1 take place between the pit crews.

Office Chair.

Indeed, it's more about a show. How do they decide the winner?
Is it simply who comes home first? If so then perhaps you should not drift so much and scrub off all the speed

Is it not to motorsport what synchronised swimming is to pool events in the olympics?

Speedway is the bike version of drifting.

Is the easiest thing just to not show any interest in it?

I find F1, rugby union, ballroom dancing and Eastenders completely uninteresting so they take up absolutely none of my time. I assume other people find these things interesting but that doesn't bother me (as long as nobody engages me in conversation about such things then gets offended when I yawn or pretend to be asleep).

As for drifting, I enjoy watching demonstrations of excellent car control. It's the artistic side of motorsport, like dressage, synchronised swimming, dancing, music, singing, writing poetry or whatever.

Indeedy, I'm sure it's enjoyable and fun to watch. I think the point was it's not racing. I don't understand how it can be.

I think the drifters agree it's not racing. The word racing doesn't feature anywhere on their website.

Agree, speedway IS racing but totally different to drifting. They are riding on a broken surface and have no choice but to hang the back end out. I went once and the smell of castor oil and methanol was intoxicating.... I had a great night!
