TV ads...

We spend hundreds of pounds on bigger and better tellys, with sharper pictures, deeper blacks and vivid colours...

So why oh why are there so many adverts recently that look washed out/lacking in contrast? The mobile phone guy "fones fhor yew" and the BT ones and T-Mobile (or whatever they're called now) and at least three others...

And why can't they put the cameras on tripods? All that money spent on the ad, and the poor camera person has to hold the dang thing -- waving about, tilted this-a-way, then that-a-way -- making me sea-sick, already!!!

Sheeeeesh....

If you can play a guitar and harmonica at the same time, like Bob Dylan or Neil Young, you're a genius. But make that extra bit of effort and strap some cymbals to your knees, suddenly people want to get the hell away from you.

Gone but not forgotten - 164 2.0, 164 Super 3.0 V6, 156 1.6 T.Spark, 156 2.5 V6...

Re: TV ads...

That "Fones 4 u" ad is hideous. Just makes the whole thing look cheap and seedy - not a good look.

On the other hand, the Cadbury's drumming Gorilla is pure class.

Re: TV ads...

... and another thing,

Why are so many of our ads dubbed?

Are we really that tight that we can't create advertising of our own? It's not as if these are the expensive ads, either (I'm thinking the Guinness ads, the Rutger Hauer or the later black & white ones...) but cheap and simple laundry ads, or room sprays, or such like...

FFS!

Re: TV ads...

It's called art, with a capital 'F'! Wobbly camera, washed out look with tinted skies. Yes, it's pants, but it's expensive pants!

And the badly dubbed cheap ones? It's because they're cheap! Ads cost a bundle of money to make, because the Production team and crew are the advertising lot, largely not as good as us lot, and completely full of bullsh*t .

Re: TV ads...

You buy the soap powder, don't you?

Seriously, anyone to do with TV advertising (and any advertising I shouldn't wonder), from the agencies to the production teams, are vastly overpaid and generally full of sh*t (awaits flaming from people in 'the biz'... )

Glad I am not the only one that this grates on.

I think someone set a camera up wrong and some idiot ad agency thought it was artistic.

Dude the TV industry sucks at the moment. Everything is geared to be done cheap as you like, from production to transmission and broadcast

...tell me about it, as a 30yr employee of Auntie, I am about to be sold off to the highest bidder, shafting my pension and reducing my redundancy terms to tuppence ha'penny. I'm so happy to be personally contributing to reinvestment in programmes, believe me...

Yup only 5 years for me but 2 companies I left due to nasty take overs, and this one already went through two take overs before I got here!

Re: TV ads...

I bought my HDTV last month. Since owning it I find it makes a lot of cheap and nasty programs look cheap and nasty! You really notice a dramatic difference from the standard tube sets.

Also it has digital and terrestrial. If you flick between the two its quite unbelievable the difference in quality.

Re: TV ads...

The beauty of advertising is that only 50% of adverts are effective....

But nobody knows which 50% is which

Re: TV ads...

The thing that irks me most about adverts is when they're recorded at superloud volume, so they make me jump instantly for the remote.

Then when the prog comes back on I have to turn it back up
