Stupid trouser fasteners

No idea what they're called, but they're a metal hook instead of a button.

Seems simple enough. But if you forget that it's not a button, and try to unfasten in the way you would a button, it stresses the hook. And if you do that enough times, the hook comes off.

Why not just fit a sodding button?

Hook & bar?

Means the fastening is "hidden" ?

Never had a problem with them myself.

Button flys can be a bit of a fumble though, especially on jeans when they are new.

The thread always snaps on a button.

Have you put on a little weight then, Bazza? Just askin', like...

I like the hook things... as Nev says the fastening is hidden, easier than a button.

Incidently I prefer button fly on jeans and chinos

Now you'd wonder whether that's the issue, wouldn't you? Except the trousers in question are too big for me (next size down was too small). Also they're a trouser with a double fastening, and this is the one that takes no strain at all.

So I'm pretty sure that the issue is that I undo them rather clumsily, pulling them laterally rather than along the line you're supposed to, and this bends them.

Now I can try to remember to not do this, but eventually I'm going to forget, and eventually these ones are going to fail too.

Difficult fastenings?

I'll ask my valet whether he's noticed as my trousers seem the same.
