Not Happy Kelvin Mackenzie on Question Time

OK, I know we all joke about the four parts of the UK from time to time, but Kelvin Mackenzie's comments on Question Time tonight bordered on racist. He said the fact the Gordon Brown and Alisdair Darling are Scots is relevant to the political debate because Scots "like spending money but not making it" and we're "not entreprenurial like those in London and the south-east". To show such ignorance of a people and feel the right to comment as he did on a serious nationwide show demonstrates a level of stupidity that beggars belief.

What an eejit

To the credit of the Cheltenham audience they booed him

Re: Kelvin Mackenzie on Question Time

it was kelvin mckenzie who (when editor of the sun) made up stories about liverpool fans "pick pocketing & urinating on the dead" at the hillsborough disaster in 1989. stories which were later admitted (by everybody but him) to be completely fabricated (he was on a yacht in the south of france on the day in question, so obviously he knows better than people who ere there in the flesh). he has re-invented himself as a cheap rent-a-gob who will appear at the opening of an envelope if there's money & publicity in it for him. a contemptible wart on the anus of humanity, i would love to see him walk the streets of liverpool and see how long he lives

A fine assessment Mr AA

All in all a salacious, poisonous, small minded, bilious old fool. Why people still read tabloid newspapers for this kind of daily tripe still bafflles and saddens me

Indeed an anus wart of the 1st degree.

Don't worry, the Scots will no doubt get their revenge - like giving us a Prime Minister for example

That would be a clever trick, there's 10 times as many of you as there is of us. You get what you vote for..........or do you

Or alternatively, now you know how we've felt for the last 300 years.

Aye! But the Scots sacked Wembley stadium (1978?). Getting invaded and subjugated by the English for 300 years hardly compares, by comparison!

MacKenzie does sound like an eejit. I think the only problem level headed Briton's have with Scot's in politics is the Scottish MPs voting on purely English matters, especially those voting for something in England that they voted against in Scotland, like university tuition "top-up" fees.

It doesn't matter a hoot whether the Prime Minister is Scottish or Chinese, as long as he does a good job I'll be happy.

I agree, except that it's not the same people who vote at the Scottish Parliament - we have MSPs for that purpose.

Re: Kelvin Mackenzie on Question Time

Kelvin McKenzie is an ex-Tabloid editor...I rest my case. Idiots like him patronise their readers into buying their grotty little rags, and then tell them how to vote. Doh!

Shocking, isn't it.

And they always tell us not to under-estimate the intelligence of the general public

Never underestimate the "power" of the masses wielded by the politicians.

Frightening

Re: Kelvin Mackenzie on Question Time

The Sun has one of the highest - if not the highest - circulations in the UK.

If you divorce yourself for a second on its awfulness and ponder on its role as a medium for communicating news and shaping opinion, it is actually a fantastic case study with respect to how it understands it readers. The Sun is a 20th/21st century marketing success. By that I mean it's a bit like Hitler; terrible yet formidable in equal measure.

Sadly, it's a matter of statistics. Consider how relatively naive and gullible the average person is and then remember that ~50% of the population is even moreso! I give you, the Sun reader!

Re: Kelvin Mackenzie on Question Time

I clicked on the line to see what this man said. I saw his picture and have no idea who he is. Excellent a has been who now spouts off still, not realising that the World in general has out evolved him. Interesting about the Sun readership figures globally, it is difficult to purchase other UK based papers whilst abroad. Does it include when tabloid wars occur 'BUY this 20p, free cd, poster, vouchers etc?'
