Slip road - lane hogs

I join the Motorway every morning from a traffic light controlled roundabout. So it's usually a single lane of 2 -3 cars joining the two lane on-slip from a standing start.
I've noticed more & more that the car at the front will go straight into fast lane, and more often than not tiddle up at 50mph to join the 70mph flow ,

Why are they doing this,

I go as hard as the little Alfa will let me on the on-slip & if I have to overtake the cars in front of me, I'm straight back into the slow lane when I'm past them, (then I usually have to slow down to join the M-way)

I reckon either -

they believe they have a fast car which shouldn't be overtaken
if that's the case you don't need to block me, just stick your foot down and prove it from the slow lane, :ieh:'er
they have been overtaken by me before and didn't appreciate it
(I am there at the same time every morning in a distinctive car it's a possibility)
in which case you need to get over yourself or get a faster car, :ieh:'er
they are stupid
, :ieh:'er
it was a Civic ctdi (old shape) this morning

I 'ahem' out accelerated him while remaining in the left hand lane

I don't normally agree with under-taking, but from now on I think I'll make an exception when accelerating on slip roads

gets on your t1ts don't it....

why people never get up to speed knowing they are now joining a road which has a flow of at least 60mph is beyond me....

One word answer: Istanbul.

They're CRAZY over here.

My taxi driver went the wrong way round
a roundabout today to get around one
particularly blocked junction

I think that some people are scared of the thought of joining traffic doing 70mph+. They need time to "think" - so go relatively slowly. Bad enough - but it is the ones who stop at the bottom of the sliproad for no reason who really worry me.

One-Way-Street.

Must be a One-Way-Street.

Gotta be a One-Way-Street, 'cos traffic on it only goes One-Way .

I thank you!

They seem to think it is safer to join a flow of 70mph traffic at 45 with you stuck to their tail - don't know why though

Yep, I find myself thinking "it's an accelaration lane; bl**dy accelerate!!". If I find myself in that situation, I let a gap build up in front of me so at least I've got room to accelerate and hit the motorway at 70mph...

Re: Slip road - lane hogs

We have one or two short motorway onramps ("slip roads"?) here that are short or have curves in them and it's hard to get up to 100kph in a slow car by the time you hit the traffic. But it annoys me when I see drivers who make no effort.
I once followed a Jaguar XKR (400hp supercharged V8) whose lady driver only managed to get to 80kph by the end of a good length straight DOWNHILL motorway onramp.. James May could do that in a Morris Marina.

Re: Slip road - lane hogs

The civic was on the roundabout at the same time as me again this morning,
this time she cut me up to move from the wrong lane into the lane that leads to the slip road (on ramp ), there's usually a queue in the lane to join the motorway, but most of the cars in it take the exit just before the Motorway, so by taking the wrong lane and cutting in you appear to make up a lot of spaces, but in reality it's maybe just 1 or 2 cars.
anyway, she indicated to change lanes and immediately tried to change lane, I had to avoid her by driving in the chevrons at the edge of the roundabout.

So I guess that helps to answer my original post , although I didn't see which lane she used, she must have caused so much confusion that the other cars were not on the slip road by the time I was joining the M-way,

She did get past me on the M-way though*, (good on ye! ),

* quite a few people get past me on the M-way, as that's when I realise the next turn off takes me to work , (ie stay in the slow lane and blame the traffic)
