Confused shocked angry.

Just had shocking 2 hours at work, some 'whistleblower' has accused me and four of my colleges of doing cocaine at WORK!!! Apparently they have seen us doing it on a regular basis, can't believe someone can hide behind anonymity and make this kind of statement which is clearly a hatchet job and lies!!! Why would someone do this, even though they accept they beleive we didn't do this it will still stick and people are already talking about it, why can't the accuser get sacked then if they accept we didn't do this. I'm just shocked, i could of lost my job over a lie. Just bizzare.

As long as it doesn't go on your permanent record your fine for future job prospects, the people tat do matter will know it's a lie the people that don't well they don;t matter for a reason.

Maybe the were saying this move focus away from THEM?

Do you know for sure tat the other 3 haven't? if you are perceived as part of their crew you could get tarred with the same stick?

Re: Confused shocked angry.

Someone accussed my girlfriend of the same thing when she was at a convention, it seems the cocaine she was using was a Vicks nasal spray, it emerged that the accuser was a user who thought she was under suspision.
Thats paranoia for you.
Hope things end up o.k for you.

Re: Confused shocked angry.

Just keep cocaine use at home folks...

Hopefully all should be sorted, if they were going to take it further you'd be presented with all the statements made against you so you could refute them. This is what happened with me at work, someone grassed me up when they spotted me playing MineSweeper. I tried to deny it but they checked the high scores and busted me

completely cleared now MD has spoken to us, says basically someone can make a complaint via 'whistleblower' and proceedure states we have to be questioned etc etc, yet person won't be pressed as to why they made these accusations in first place. Just jealous people who aren't on the sales floor earning money.

Re: Confused shocked angry.

Cocaine stays in the system for a long time, volunteer a drugs test, at your own expense to be repaid upon a negative result. The results to be made clear and visible to all, including your boss.
You then pass the drugs test and the boss HAS to take action against those who raised the issue.

And lastly, join a union, workers need backing nowdays more than ever, it's very easy to find yourself with disciplinery issues on your record which shouldn't be there, don't find yourself without a leg to stand on

A friend of mine is a traffic cop (sorry !). He was accused of drug taking at work and suspended, pending results of a drug test.

Options for the test were urine, blood or hair. Drug stay in hair much longer than the other two. To dispell any rumours he gladly volunteered a hair test and it showed up clear.

Turned out the informant was somebody he arrested some time ago, but the allegation was taken seriously.

Bl00dy hell. That's just shocking - surely people can't accuse others without evidence.

This whistleblowing thing is a bit of a worry but because it happens companies develop policies to protect the accuser and accused (we have such a policy). I still think unsupported accusations should be punishable by at least a written warning.

I hope it goes on their record that they made an unfounded allegation

Re: Confused shocked angry.

Yes... my firm don't give a hoot if someone is useless, lazy or makes monumental ****-ups that cost them thousands... but tell someone they are a "lazy useless canute" and hurt their feelings, and you end up with a yellow card.

Weird (wired?) world...

Maybe you can make a complaint via whistleblower procedure about the whistle blower (name only known to the company) what would procedure state then ? would they also have to question the whistleblower as to why the made the complaint ? and on what evidence their complaint was made. Slander laws cover unfounded alegations

have a look at the the link below you might find it usefull

http://www.pcaw.co.uk/faq/employers.html

also read the extract below from the public disclosure act:-

Does the Public Interest Disclosure Act require an employer to keep a whistleblowerallegationsuseful's identity secret?
Employers are not required by PIDA to keep the identity of a worker who raises a concern about potential malpractice confidential. However, you need to consider your obligations under data protection legislation and, as a matter of common sense, because some of your workers may be reluctant to raise a concern with you unless they offer them the option of keeping their identity secret. It is therefore a good idea to offer confidentiality to any worker who asks for it. In doing so it is worthwhile being clear about the limits of confidentiality, i.e. let the worker know of the circumstances when their identity might have to be revealed and speak to them if this situation arises. Having given an assurance of confidentiality, you should honour it unless the person releases you from it or a court orders otherwise. If you do breach an obligation of confidentiality you have promised an employee and he suffers as a result, you can be liable under PIDA and / or common law.
