Plane seats

We have arrived on holiday

But I do have a rant about the flight, not the flight itself (first time on a Dreamliner) because it was fine, smooth and noticeably quieter than other aircraft.

But it's the stupid selfish ignorant people who try and recline their seat

You don't have much room to start with, although the Dreamliner was decent in leg room but lacking in shoulder room. But it gets worse when some selfish git infront feels they need an extra 3 inches of space. This was not a short flight either, 9 hrs to Dom rep, but even if it had been a 30 min flight it would have been the same.

I asked her politely if she would mind not reclining her seat as it meant I had no room, could not see the TV, could not use my iPad or put my table down. She huffed and reluctantly agreed, but since it is a holiday flight and they are likely to be here for 2 weeks also we will have to joys of sitting behind them on the way back. She said when we landed that we had to understand that we will NEED to recline the seat on the return flight. I'm sorry, but why do you NEED to recline the seat :BAT: you do not get that much more room, you are going to be asleep so what difference does it make and why should I HAVE to be more uncomfortable just so you can get a 2% more comfortable snooze

Reclining seats in economy should be banned. I'm just gonna put my table down the whole flight, locks the seat so it can't be reclined :evil2:

She'll possibly be ranting when she gets off the plane if not before

I take 6-8 long haul return flights a year, and I *have* to recline the seat. I can't sleep without reclining them, and if I don't sleep I'll be ****ed when I arrive. Also, sitting bolt upright for 10 hours will completely kill my back.

Other than at meal times, she paid for a seat which has the ability to recline, and you didn't pay for the right to not let her recline - if you need more space, then you need to upgrade, or reserve an exit row/bulkhead seat. That said, the majority of people don't have a problem. Over the past 2 years I've had 1 person ask me not to recline my seat, and when I said that I need to sleep (as do most people on a redeye flight!) I didn't hear anything else for the length of the flight.

I don't see the issue with the TV though - every flight I've been on in economy the screen/table is designed so that it can be seen/used when the person in front is reclined. I've not been on a dreamliner, but I would assume they're the same (probably the same seats as the newer 777s).

Just enjoy your holiday!

Yes she paid for her seat the same as I did but why should that mean she gets more room than me... The seats On the Dreamliner felt pretty reclined to begin with, much more than standard, even with a bad back there is no reason you should feel the need to make someone else more uncomfortable just for your own comfort, no-one else would have said anything because people are generally too polite, they would have been cursing you to their partners tho

We are staying at the Riu Merengue in Puerto Plata. It's our honeymoon (got married 18 months ago) and we'll be there for two weeks. Can't bloody wait. What are your first impressions?

Hot

The Dreamliner was nice... Much better than standard long haul planes. There was a decent selection of films, watched a good programme about gianfranco Zola

We're in punta Cana, you will be flying into a different airport, flew into Puerto plata a few years ago, Airport is probably nicer than it was then.

Anyway, what Gladys said about seat recliners. They can be most annoying.

Yes, but as the septics have now opened up the Embassy there again, we need to go before the dunkin donuts brigade appear. I'm happy to embrace any commie on my holidays providing the vodka in my glass is kept topped up!

I like reclining my seat but I usually wait until the person behind me has just bought a drink and puts it on the little table thingy behind me, ten points for a full spillage and five points if they grab it before it goes over them

Don't understand. What is the problem with the passenger in front of you putting their bed down flat? How can that impinge on your bed?

On a long flight like that you can't expect someone to sit upright the whole time. Just recline your own seat to give yourself more room. Person behind can then do the same......simple.

Short haul where the room is generally appalling then there's really no reason to recline. Being tall myself I wedge my knees into the back of the seat in front so reclining is impossible.

The Dreamliner seats are pretty reclined already, there is little to gain from putting it back
