Is My Car Invisible Or What?

I've just been to the post office to collect a parcel, a return journey of no more than 4 miles, and nearly got wiped out twice!

The first time a stupid ***** in a Grande Punto was overtaking in a 30 mph zone and I had to stand on the brakes to avoid a head on collision.

The second time some chav kid in a 306 turned right out of a T-junction and again I had to jump on the brakes to avoid cleaning him out.

Is my car invisible or what?

Re: Is My Car Invisible Or What?

I can empathise

Must be a 156 thing - prat in a Mondeo nearly ran me into the central reservation this morning when he pulled out on top of me to overtake a slower car - I honestly thought '**** this is it...'

F87king idiot

p.s. that is on top of the idiot in the BMW he nearly ran me off the road yesterday, the jogger who ran out in front of me and the idiot in the Grande Punto who was in the LH lane and turning right thus blocking all the traffic and gave me verbals when I shook my head

maybe I should have had my own thread

or is it -'Get the 156 week'

They were actually members of an Eco-terrorist sleeper-cell
trying to off you for using your car to do a 4 mile trip.

Do Eco-terrorists drive Puntos and 306s then?

well, it wouldn't be a sleeper-cell if they walked
everywhere and wore a lot of hemp clothing, would it?

Well they have a go at various age groups, relating blame to one or the other, but on a daily basis, I reckon there are more, and more, totally 'crackpot' drivers on the road, regardless of age, or gender. Have to be a totally observant, and survivalist type driver, to allow for the mistakes of this 'Wipe YOU out Brigade' 360 Deg. vision, if poss?:

Re: Is My Car Invisible Or What?

And of course, there is the other sort - the ones that SEE the Alfa, and do their damndest to baulk her ...
For example: last Friday, two lines of traffic on the 2-lane M11 travelling at more or less the same speed (70-odd). Me in inside lane, well ahead of 4x4 pickup in outside lane. Lorry ahead doing 55. Silly me puts indicator on, like good little boy, suggesting my intention to pull out and overtake. Pickup promptly accelerates, trying to keep me in inside lane. Unfortunately for him he was too late, so he sits one metre from my back bumper flashing and hooting, then undertakes and pulls out again, just missing the lorry.
Several miles later I see his "normal" technique for changing lane - no signal but manouver as late and as abruptly as possible when pulling off at Stansted.

Ho hum

Re: Is My Car Invisible Or What?

Before this wasn't a problem I got, my commute being 30 miles of B road and 5 minutes on the A68. Now I am commuting to Edinburgh.... and all I can say is OH MY GOD!!!!

A720 (city bypass) at 5 ish. moving but solid. to flow all it would need is patience and a gap being left. I do this, cruise along in the inside lane letting the traffic join from Hermiston Gait. I usually gain 1/2 to 1 mile on the traffic in the outside lane

However, I am getting sick fed up of the absolute morons and am beginning to feel it is only a matter of time. I am dreading winter if it snows as it is a well known fact that around 90% of urban ish drivers are clueless on the slippy stuff.

And I'll have Soutra and Westruther to follow them. Deep joy!!!

We have no plan, therefore nothing can go wrong (much)

And i Have finally put piccies of the silver one on!!

Re: Is My Car Invisible Or What?

I'm working on a theory that vehicles have a "Heirarchy of Invisibility".

So far my research has been inconclusive but so far I think that vehicles get progressively more visible in this order:

1) Fire engine. Dayglo paint, the size of a barn door, blue lights and sirens.

2) Brand new, expensive car.. and you have > 10 years accident free driving record

3) Brand new expensive car and your last car was written off two years ago.

4) Brand new "cheap" car

5) "New" second-hand car.. low mileage, bargain, mint condition

6) Company car

7) Motorcycle

8) Old banger

9) White Van .. narrowly beaten by;

10) Old banger with RAF "targets" painted on the side and a sign saying "Free money - drive into me" and stacks of life insurance. Guaranteed, no-one will EVER hit you.

Re: Is My Car Invisible Or What?

I am beginning to think my silver 156 is invisible as well. I have never owned a car where so many people simply pull out in front of me without either looking of not seeing me. Even with the lights on.

Its when the pull in front forcing me to slow down, the drive slowly that really annoys me..

Re: Is My Car Invisible Or What?

Same thing happened to me the other night, driving on a quiet, perfectly straight A-road, someone pulled out right in front of me! Had to slam the brakes on, the ABS cut in, and I missed him by about 3ft!

My GT is less than a week old, and I thought I was gonna write-off my brand-new motor within a week of getting it!

I felt like turning round, following this idiot home and giving him a piece of my mind (or tyre iron!)

Re: Is My Car Invisible Or What?

I had some old man who looked like he was delivering the blue rinse brigade to bingo nearly drive into the side of me in his BMW 3 series compact as I turned left to exit a roundabout. The mutant had to decided to take the outside lane to drive right around the outside of the roundabout to go straight on. My sharp reflexes avoided a collision but I had to go right round the roundabout again. Which I did and caught him up at the next set of lights where I proceded to tell him exactly what I though of him. I swear I must have been invisible as even with my widow right down and my arm waving wildly out of it neither him or his passengers even looked my way, Not even a blink!!

Spooky

Owning an Alfa is not a matter of life or death...... It's much more important than that.

Re: Is My Car Invisible Or What?

I have a similar tale. I was driving in the MG down to Bangor on Thirsday along the A55. Going down the Rhault Hill there are roadworks, so the dual carriageway goes into one lane. I was cruising at 60 as we approached the roadworks. Some bloke overtook me and then cut in - a bit close for comfort but there was room, but then unbelievably some old granny in a Citroen tried to do the same. The look of the road-workmans face was a picture, as she simply did not have room . She had to break hard and then to avoid hitting the cones, and then pull in behind me

In every step, I hear your sobbing
Dare I break the shade with one caress
Dare I trespass to lift the veil
To touch the lips so soft and frail

It may be that love comes once and once only, preceded by rehersal, followed by regret.

Know well that however right a man may be they always find the fallen one guilty.

All that is required for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing
