Madness "Scaring" Newbies?

I have just been informed that I have had three posts deleted from a thread. They were innocent, non-offensive and in response to another 3 member's posts. The reason given? "To keep post counts down so as not to scare newbies".
This subject is getting to be ridiculous. Isn't this a forum where the actual idea is to post???!! I don't even have an inordinately large post count?!
The thread concerned has had so many posts now removed from it that it no longer makes coherent sense.
Am I alone in thinking this is just now getting to the ridiculous stage?

Re: "Scaring" Newbies?

That's odd. I post shed loads of stuff, and I've never seen that message in six years!

Could it just be a software glitch maybe?

Re: "Scaring" Newbies?

It was the Introduce yourself to AOS thread. Fast Frank has explained why it was done, but never having insulted (to my knowledge) anyone, or written offensive posts that have been complained about, I object to them being removed. It was the thread manager who deleted them. Apparently it was "unnecessary chit chat that didnt require to be waded through by newbies"

Re: "Scaring" Newbies?

My posts were deleted to...I'm not sure why the noob line was added but I assumed they removed our posts so that thread only displayed the information the title asked for. I wasn't too happy about it either but thinking about it, it makes sense.

Fast Frank is your man. Suggest you ask him nicely as to why he did what he did (several times by the looks of the thread)

Oh no doubt I'll get a wrist slapping for this too, seeing as I've just realised it should really be in the rant lounge

Hi Sharon, and all...... The sticky in the lounge is for peeps to say Hello so when new peeps find the area lounge or go to a meet thay can see who is who and not have to read page's of peeps repling to other stuff... dont take it to heart if you had a post deleted, it's just house keeping and you get a message to let you know thats all......it's not personel

Hi Sharon - welcome to the club.

I've had stuff removed in the past and seen the stern face admonishing me. I just accept it - it is only fun posting here after all and, whilst I have never posted in malice, if someone occasionally takes exception I'll go along with it.

Paul.

Re: "Scaring" Newbies?

Like most women, I fly off the handle and have a rant for a bit, then I'm fine. I've calmed down now

I did think it was a bit petty, but as the posts had wandered off topic, I guess it was a valid decision.

AO has been a great place for me in recent months, and I would be cutting off my nose to spite my face if I stopped logging on cos I took a strop about this.

Don't worry. Yeez canny get rid of me that easily

Maybe I'm alone in thinking/saying this, but 147V does intimidate me

Re: "Scaring" Newbies?

I've used a lot of different forums over the years, and it's not the way that i;d have kept a thread on track personally.... but I think everyone who helps run sites like this has a different idea on what forum procedures and ettiquete should be.

I can see exactly why Frank did a spring clean, and it makes total sense. I can also see why folk took the huff and felt a bit in the dark. At the end of the day it's nothing terribly serious, just a tad confusing for those who are new to the particular way of working.

Having said that, this forum is probably the most friendly simple ones I've encountered. I'm going to bed before my brain turns to mush
