Oh Nev. What is it you dislike so much about a wee furry independent animal thats smart, affectionate and clean? (speaking from an avid cat lover's point of view of course?)

The clawin' and gnawing of feet
at 6am was a particular annoying
dislike.

That's true Nev they are not even listed as an animal under the Road Traffic Act (or at least they never used to be) but there are exceptions to every rule.

There's a lovely wee cat in our street. The problem is it thinks it's a dog.

The problem is animal shrinks are so expensive and if anyone ever knocks it over I would go to court and swear it thought that it was a dog

Miaoweee! back on this one are we, short of new stuff? Animals is OK, people create the problems on our planet, especially the high intellect ones with totally lacked ingredients referred to as common sense. Up the Egyptians.

I'm with you on this one, in fact I'm shocked at how many people with such good taste in cars can have such bad taste in pets....
The only difference is I wouldn't have the guts to post such a strong thread on this site, or even express my views on the subject.....

I think they (cats) are two faced, smug and self righteous and I hate them. However its a free world and each to his own.....

Re: Cats, good god y'all, what are they good for?

Saw another superb killing machine in action today.(our cats were pest control artists ,in the sticks where we lived.) Culled the rat's peein' about spreading fatal diseases around. I digress, Sparrow Hawk took a collared dove off our lawn this morning. Wife exclaimed "Oh! No!" I says, "Whats up?" Then I sees the executioner and victim on the lawn. Dashes out, although it was almost certainly dead from shock. The Air Ace took off tallons full of fresh meat, and I just picked up a few fevvers'. End of story.:PS May of been a Harrier, in retrospect, all over in a flash, so wasn't able to ask for ID.

I only posted this to bring some
semblance of balance.

I don't attribute anything like
that much awareness to most
animals.

They want food, shelter and probably
the odd shag. Humans give em the first
two for nowt. They used to be able to
spend the rest of their time looking for
the third, but modern sterilization has
gatecrashed their party lifestyle.

I'm not a cat lover, but I'm with ZF on this one. As a killer of Ratus Ratus and the like, they seem to be as effective as any other method. Just as long as their up to the job. I have heard that not all are, those weaklings need to go back to boot camp for some serious beasting

As the dove was unlucky so you were priveliged to see such a sight.
Oh and I may have accidentally given the impression that I disliked cats, this was just mis-interpretaion
I often think that you own a dog, where as a cat owns you?
Perhaps haughty is a better word for cats.

Re: Cats, good god y'all, what are they good for?

Good Chat thread this guys: Interesting points of view. You're right FF. Has to be the right cat as a culling machne, against vermin: Strangely enough, some Moggies, Ferals, are good at it, yet so are some pedigrees, or so I have heard. Only had moggie's ourselves, but do know of 'Upper Crust' felines that are good hunters, at least the owners told me they were.:

No they're not; they're too stupid to be like that - they just come across that way. They are self-centred because they are solitary animals and that's why I don't like them. That and the fact they kill anything that moves just for fun.

My cat was curled up on the road once.
Got stuck in the chimly.
Hid in the car. It came out down the A1 somewhere.
brought a dead rabbit in the house.

Re: Cats, good god y'all, what are they good for?

I like all animals, just nature, as it should be. Cat's perform useless, and useful, actions. So do dogs. some are working, some not. The worst rats as I have said before, are not the creatures with long dragging tails, peeing all the time. The worst vermin stand upright on two legs, and cause more global strife, than the rest of the animal kingdom put together,IMO.:

Re: Cats, good god y'all, what are they good for?

I was bludgeoned into having a cat, against my better judgement as although I like cats its the damage to the songbird/garden bird populations that I hate. The birds are under considerable pressure and cats can tip the balance right over the cliff. I'd prefer the birds everytime frankly.(I have a blackbird that sits on my boot while I am gardening, waiting for the worms...no jokes please)

That apart..our Daisy, otherwise known as "Catastrophic", or "The Disaster Monkey" is a delightful creature most of the time and we enjoy great play fights together. She is independent, but waits for me to get home and rushes out to greet me..usually bats me with a paw and rushes off into the shrubbery again.

I much prefer dogs (aka **** machines), but with both of us out at work its not on really to have one.

I like birds too. Especially Jackdaws, memories of my pet one as a kid. Suppose cats is just born hunters, so, introduced in the domestics of life, carry on as nature intended, to the displeasure of some folk, but I reckon they are here to stay, regardless.

Cats aren't my favourite pet but they have their uses I suppose as vermin control.
