Madness Welcome to planet prius!

I have lost count how many I have seen this week but the bloody things are everywhere! Never has there been a blander more boring over priced politically correct car, what’s wrong with people! And its not like there saving the planet or anything as the biggest complaint amongst prius owners is it overstated fuel efficacy!

And breath out

Re: Welcome to planet prius!

Not forgetting those bloody G-Wizz things.

I find it amazing that a car that has probably the worst safety/crash test results of modern vehicles is so popular with environmental muppets. The bloody things are all over London.

Re: Welcome to planet prius!

I saw a couple this week whilst out on site.
Why would anyone want one
Apparently you have to do 100 000 miles in one to offset its production footprint. Imagine being strapped in one for 100 000 miles, at 40mph, with the kind of eco d1ck that would buy one while he tells us that we shouldn't drive a V6
I do believe we should consider the planet, and make some decisions about its future, but not that...
Eg my 156 2.5 V6 takes me to work and back 11 miles a day. If I walked! to work and back in one month I would save the amount of fuel that one of our works vans uses in a day!

Re: Welcome to planet prius!

The (other) large US corp we share a building with
at work seems to be quite taken with the Lexus RS400h
hybrid SUV as a company car.

WTF is the point of them !?

I am sure I read somewhere that the emissions leaving a post cat car in London ( and I suppose other cities ) are less poluted than the air going in!!!

Maybe they should stop breathing if they are
so worried about "CO2 emissions" ?

The irony of it is that it can't possibly be environmentally friendly to buy a new car.

Re: Welcome to planet prius!

What gets me is the sanctimonious preaching about driving electric vehicles as being environmentaly friendly, when in this country pretty much all of our electricity is produced by fossil fuel burning power stations. So how is that any better?
I now believe that building regs actively discourage using electricty to heat homes because of this very point
Now, if we were in Japan, where pretty much all of their electricity comes from neuclear power stations, then they may have a point...but until then get off the soap box and wind your neck in. Your poxy Prius is more polluting, when taking into account all the issues surrounding the environmental problems with producing and disposing of batteries, than a modern, efficient internal combustion engine.......and breathe.
Rant over.

I can't think of a more inappropriate name for something. Prius. I mean, it kind of suggests priapism, but I can't imagine anything more guaranteed to give you a soft-on...

Can't remember where I read it, but in a newspaper article, someone called it the Pious which I think is perfect.

Re: Welcome to planet prius!

Isn't all the oil running out? We should burn it while there's still some left!!

But yes.. the most pollution-efficient car is an old one. The Pious costs more additional C02 to make than it ever saves (also think about the digging/mining and transportation of the extra nickel/copper/lead/cadmium it contains compared to a normal car, never mind what happens to all that **** when it gets dumped in an Auto Salvage yard in 20 years' time.

Damn - I thought it was me that coined that. Oh well, unintentional plagiarism never did anyone any harm.

The old hybrid debate. I have had it put to me that electic cars are more efficient at using the power from a fossil fuel. In other words - you would burn less coal to run an electric car for one mile than you would use if you used coal as a direct fuel source. Still, they're made of plastic and rare earths; they are nothing more than a marketing ploy.

Not if your talking about CO2 emissions though, which is
what the environmentalists are carping
on about these days.

(Overall pollution would probably be less in a large coal-fired
powerstation with modern burners, good scrubbers, combined
heat & power etc. And the pollution wouldn't be in the city
where it'd do most (health) harm.)

Electric cars need clean sources of electricity. Hydropower
or nuclear are the only current, viable, large scale options.

Re: Welcome to planet prius!

I read in evo mag (I believe) about a test between the Prius and the Panda 100hp, and after a certain period (say 200 miles) of mxed driving the Panda was a mere 1 mpg or so behind the Prius! Although they did agree the Prius felt quicker, that was it.

Panda for us all the way.
