Madness beginning to really hate cars

for the last 13, 14 years ive mostly been into bikes, thats where i learned to use spanners, modify things, tune things etc. even with the right old machines, if you couldn't get the parts oem, an alternative wasn't hard to source. people were friendly, offered all of their time, generally couldn't do enough for you (even if you were planning on making a crappy old commuter into a fire breathing monster!)
Cars
As some of you know iam trying to build a 24valve converted ALFA (not ford etc beeh beeh) 75, so far ive hit set back after set back, ITS ALL TOO [email protected]@KIN EASY TO SAY NO LONGER AVAILABLE MATE, WITH NO OFFER OF ANY HELP TO SOURCE AN ALTERNATIVE, lazy approach that all car dealers seem to take unless you have several thousand in the bank (even then you'd struggle)
I know for a fact, if i had a ford, vauxhall etc i'd be onto a winner coz you can still get everything for em (early seventies cars may be excluded here) but i don't want to be chav, i don't want to be a [email protected]@KIN sheep, i want to do up an ALFA ROMEO, a real drivers car, one with spirit not some sh1tty E30 beema etc.
is it too much to ask to build a non standard, tastefull fast road car?
particularly with the name ALFA followed by 75?
This is doing my head in, before long i may consider doing what some of these un helpfull idiots suggested and just crush the dam thing....
Its a good solid 3ltr shell without a sunroof, that would be a good waste but ho hum, why should i care? nobody else seems to....

to those who have offered help (sensible suggestions)etc i thank you very much, it is most appreciated

spence

Sorry mate, they don't do the rant you're looking for any more. Can't get 'em for love nor money. Have you tried your local scrappy?

BTW, the reason you can get parts for the ford or vauxhall is EXACTLY because of the 'sheep' element. There were bloody millions of them, so it was much more profitable to continue to make spare parts for them.

Re: beginning to really hate cars

You have to struggle

Mind, I'm sure there must be places to get 75 stuff from. I'm surprised there isn't info on here, but if not, maybe the AROC website? Or, I believe there's a forum called alfabb which is supposed to be very good for the older models.
I'd bet if you could find someone to point you in the right direction, that there are suppliers in Italy who could help you out.

Re: beginning to really hate cars

Which parts precisely are no longer available that you need? We can put feelers out and network..and somebody's usually got something that can help, or has found a way round. There are still quite a few 75s out there racing.

Something as sublime as a 24valve 75 has got to be worth it I'd have thought. Having built a kit car once and dented my brain through banging my head against a brick wall more than once, I do sympathise however, I really do.

You'l get there in the end.

Some of the Lancia Indies, used to go over, and come back with loads of so called 'difficult' bits, when I was Lancia buzzing. Years after the cars were no longer UK bound.:

that was my thoughts exactly....
i was hoping to save one more 75 from "being broken" and ensure it stays on the road for at least another 5 years!
So far ive been lucky with parts, fleabay mostly! iam ordering parts from the u.s via alfabb.... but thats for the engine, i still have no transmision
but.... i need new bumpers/wings etc (someone has swopped my original veloce wings for stds) so i thought never mind, you can get a kit for anything nowadays (judging by how many rubbish rustcorts and chavaliers u see driving about)
not so! at the same time i thought, hmmm those imsa cars sure look sweet, as iam going to the effort of putting the engine in, i may aswell make the car look aggressive before it go's for an "in and out" paint job....
typical that the bloke "who made the kits" has jacked in recently...
are you telling me he destroyed the moulds??? i chuffing doubt it!!!
I,ve tried several companies in Holand (seems to be quite a few IMSA cars there) guess what?! no response!
do people not want my money??!!
Iam starting to think its soon as i say the name ALFA, people just switch off... they don't really give a to55 what model

Re: beginning to really hate cars

Have you tried alfaaid in Maidenhead? I haven't used them since I had a 75 TS myself about 5 years ago but they were very good with second hand parts. I had an accident and smashed the front, and they were able to source a new front cross member, second hand bonnet and lights no problem. I was even able to get a front quater light window for my 33 from them when some a***hole tried to steal it.

ive tried BLS for a kit as gavin said they might be able to,
ive tried EMC but Waynes not to keen on what iam doing
plus ive been led to believe its the same supplier to both for GRP
EB spares can't help with my propshaft problems
ive emailed all the companies on the 75 register with no reply (i can't speak dutch so pooh)
ive even tried Highwood Alfa! but the car aint an alfetta soooo

am i really running out of options?
oh, i'd really like a new n/s headlamp to match the spanker i have on the o/s! (i have two spare o/s's and no n/s's)
some of the stuff i can possibly fabricate myself, others such as the 55mm center support bearing iam stuffed!
I'd really love to have an imsa body kit, but if my only option is a £2k one off with no moulds anyway, its a big no no
