Doubles Tennis

Why oh why do tennis players playing doubles have to touch hands / fists or what ever, after each point, regardless if they win, lose or **** up? I can understand congratulating your partner in the event of an excellent point but every time

Just watched a replay of the Jamie Murray match where an opposing player fell while trying to return and his partner ran over and with the guy on the ground offered his hand - not to assist him up but to play touchy feely. MAN UP

It doesn't really bother me, it's teamwork.

What really does my head in though, is Sharapova making that ridiculous primeval grunting noise every time she hits the flamin' ball. Silly bint

It helps me stop watching.

I actually couldn't bear to watch the match between Serena Williams and Azarenka. I had to turn over, such was the degree of ridiculous grunting. And it actually ruined the match, Williams ended up trying to out-grunt the Russian out of sheer frustration and her game fell to bits. It's designed to put off your opponent, it's gamesmanship, pure and simple.

Sharapova's the same.

This, in contrast to the recent Women's Football World Cup, which was very watchable indeed.

It should be banned.

There is of course, the grunt of effort as you hit the ball, that's entirely reasonable because a lot of physical effort is involved.

But certain purveyors of the prolonged grunt have got it down to a fine art of peeing off their opponents.

It's disgraceful.

Yes, everyone grunts to an extent. The sheer physical effort of a stroke produces a short, sharp exhalation of breath for the duration of the effort. The duration of the effort is actually very short.

It is the purposely-prolonged diaphragm follow-through which extends all the way to the opponent's return shot (thereby putting them off) which in my opinion is totally unacceptable, and cynically designed tp put them off their stroke.

It's gamesmanship, pure and simple.

And not that they give a flying **** about what I think, but it also makes a match unwatchable as far as I'm concerned. I actually have to change channels.

Yes, they'd be quieter.

Possibly not quite as good looking in white frilly knickers though, mind.

What's grunting got to do with doubles? Unless the partner grunts in sympathy.

Doubles tennis should just be the
same as 1-on-1 but everytime someone
drops a point they have to neck a double-shot
of tequila.
