Then after his time in nick and the expense to get back driving again, he can tell others if he thinks his little 90mph jaunt was worth it.

100 in a 70? We've all done it, doesn't make it right.
Although depends on the situation as well though:

Clear motorway, early hours of the morning, dry road, good use of lane discipline? Don't see too much of a problem myself, and to be honest, nor do the coppers I've met.

Crowded motorway, poor conditions, diving in and out of traffic, undertaking etc? Idiotic and dangerous. Usually a BMW driver

Over 90 in a 30 zone? Bloody hell, a custodial sentence seems appropriate for that level of idiocy!

Were the coppers you met down the pub off duty or did they pull you over when they caught you doing it? If you do just over 100, you'll get 6 points if you're lucky, a ban if you're not! Unless you're incredibly lucky and they're finishing their shift!

but motorways and local roads are a different matter!

92 in a 30 is just not on.

He should lose his license for more than year, sod his job and his commitments (as he's bound to use that in his defence?).

Re: CLOWN - 92mph in a 30 zone

I actually got pulled on the M1 doing 115mph at 1am one morning. Got let off with a 3 point fixed penalty because;

"We're going to cut you some slack and offer you a fixed penalty because the road was clear, your lane positioning was good and there was actually nothing wrong with your driving, you were just going too quick - consider it a slap on the wrist"

Believe me, I considered it a serious slap on the wrist and it's a rare occasion now I'll head up over the ton mark and certainly not for any length of time. Just shows whether a reasonable copper views high speed as dangerous depending on conditions and your driving and will take a view accordingly.

There's absolutely no excuse for 92 in a 30 though and they should be looking at a custodial sentence if you ask me.

Re: CLOWN - 92mph in a 30 zone

guy near us insists on doing at least 60+ on his bike, from one part of the high street to the other, the noise is horrendous (race cans?) and sometimes he does it purely on his back wheel. Now I tend to turn a blind eye to some antics, but this is down a narrow high street with other users on it, so god forbid if a child or dog (or whoever) steps out, as they'll both be in big trouble.

We spoke to the local community copper a few months back, but they did nothing about it, even though its become a regular thing.
Last night he was doing it with a guy riding pillion and it was pi**ing down??

I am not defending this person in any way but (from behind the setee) this is not quite as bad as it first sounds if you don't know the area.

Beach Boulivard is one of these straight beach front roads with no residential areas nearby. There is a Funfair and the sort of retail/industrial mix you get where these sort of out of town areas are built.

The kids have been racing there for years and the police have been catching them there for years.

Still utterly stupid

My missus best mate is a traffic cop, one of the more sensible one's who realise that speed isn't necessarily always dangerous, and a lot of traffic cops like her tend to see the bigger picture when the roads are deserted etc

They're not ALL driver hating little Hitlers, just the majority of them

I stayed in a hotel near there a few years back and it did seem to be the local hang out for the boy-racer types.

When I saw the name of the place I thought it sounded like a long straight piece of road that people would use for racing. I think it highly unlikely that pedestrians would go near the place if this was going on.

Not saying I condone it in any way at all, but it's not like he's going up a crowded high street on a Saturday afternoon at 90 miles per hour.

Re: CLOWN - 92mph in a 30 zone

I'm not defending this guy, if its a built up area then he deserves it, but - there are now some ridiculous speed limits around us. In one place they've reduced the limit on a dual carrageway to 40. This road runs through a rural area with no houses around it. The cops now hang out there, doing everyone they can. I got three points a couple of years ago on there for doing a very sensible 49. You could drive on there at 89 in total safety

There has been several fatalities (mostly innocent people) and numerous serious accidents, several involving pedestrians in that particular area, purely because of clowns like this.
