Effing flaming *&^%$*& BT

I want internet access at home.

I have a BT line, but it's not connected.

I have to call a special, "reconnecting an existing line" number. The week before last, I spent an hour on hold to this number before I gave up I tried again the next day, but gave up after another hour on hold.

I then rang sales, who put me through to Broadband by mistake.

They then put me through to the same number I had previously rung (I could tell from the on hold message). I spent another 40 minutes on hold before I gave up.

I then tried customer complaints and used their ring-back service to register a complaint about it. They said they were very sorry and told me it would be sorted out and took my details.

Someone rang back the next day and said he wanted to confirm my address.

Since then (last week) I've heard absolutely nothing.

I don't even know if I've successfully ordered a new connection or not and there seems to be no way of getting hold of someone who can tell me what the situation is unless I'm prepared to spend all day with my office phone engaged.

Surely all someone's got to do is create an account on a computer and flick a switch at the exchange?

In a free market, it wouldn't matter as I'd simply use a competitor, but unfortunately, there isn't one.

If you persist and 'assert your authority' on an ongoing basis eventually they will issue you with an 'Issues Resolution Manager' and you will have a personal number to call to avoid all the call centres etc. Without going into details my last issue with them took 6 months and a threat of court action before being resolved with c.£1k compensation back to me for my time spent on phoning them at £25 per hour !

And people say ARUK have bad service !!

I must be the only person in the world who has never had any problem with BT.... their service has always been spot on for me.

As with most companies when it works it's fine - it's when it stops that you have to worry.

Pray that your problem-free service continues

Re: Effing flaming *&^%$*& BT

An update – I got a call on Sunday saying the phone would be switched on yesterday. It wasn't and I still don't have any way to check how the order is progressing, but I'm feeling a bit more hopeful that I might get a phone soon!

Re: Effing flaming *&^%$*& BT

Bt pee me off also. Wife spent 40 mins on hold yesterday. Our problem is 96kb/sec broadband, noisy lines & phones that beep all the time. A engineer (the 4th) came this morning and changed all the internal sockets and swaped the pairs over to give us new internal line. Even thought everything was fitted by BT 7 years ago, they say this will be chargable. My arse - wife will fight them on the beaches over this

PS. We also have a PIN number to access the UK call center as we can't understand what the hell the majority of call centre staff are on about. It's like they are scripted robots speaking with an Indian accent & with us being Welsh no one has a hope

Re: Effing flaming *&^%$*& BT

I am in the same situation as I have not long moved house. There is a BT Line that isn't connected and I am trying to get it reconnected. Unfortunately there is no cable on my estate either, so I have to use BT.

I tried setting everything up online but apparently my bank account will not accept direct debits. What a load of rubbish, there are 2 on there already..

Where did you find this? Or is it because you already have an account with BT? All I could get hold of was the number that no one will answer.

Have you got decent microfilters? They're worth spending a bit of money on, the freebie ones can be a bit rubbish.

Re: Effing flaming *&^%$*& BT

Thanks for that TEJ, sounds like you've been having exactly the same issue as me.

Having spent two hours on the phone today, I've found out that the provision for new accounts has been taken over by a new bunch of people. I have their number, but it's been engaged for the last three hours.

I've phoned complaints, but they keep putting me through before I can make a complaint. It's ****ing ridiculous to be honest. I will be writing a letter of complaint and will copy OFTEL in on it, but I don't expect it to make a shred of difference.

They've given us three routers and god knows how many microfilters. We've seen 4 engineers and had three months of everything refunded but I just want it bloody sorted without me buying anything. It worked fine until April too

Re: Effing flaming *&^%$*& BT

An update. Before leaving for work this morning tried my phoning my mobile on my landline and it started ringing! So It's been done. No one's told me or given me a number, I had to get it off my mobile's missed calls list.

Re: Effing flaming *&^%$*& BT

A friend of mine was taken to court by BT as they said he owed them a few hunderd pounds. He won the case in the end, as he could prove that he didn't.

They abuse their position as a monopoly IMO.

Re: Effing flaming *&^%$*& BT

I don't have such an issue in terms of service from BT, but by christ are they expensive.

We'll be switching our telly, phone and internet lock stock to Virgin Media sometime soon, because we can get much faster broadband, far more telly channels including the Setanta package, and our phoneline from virgin, for around 75% of what we currently pay.

Re: Effing flaming *&^%$*& BT

I have to get the missus to deal with them now whenever we need to call them as I just get too ****ed off with them.

When we had to set our line up after we moved in, I won't bore you with the details but it took forever and left me with no internet as well as holding up my pending Sky installation indefinately. After 3 months of back and forth phone calls and moaning, we discovered the reason was that the postcodes had been changed 2 years previously (obviously, we didn't know that) and because BT's system hadn't updated properly yet they assumed we didn't exist, and the order kept failing. Nobody in India thought to tell me this though...
