Night driving being ruined!!!!

Anyone else noticed this? I always used to love driving at night time, when the roads are pretty empty and you can have some sensible fun in your Alfa. But lately I've noticed the roads are full of teenaged pricks in their clapped out Vauxhalls, Pugs and Renaults at night.

Made the mistake of overtaking one last night - he was doing about 50 in a 60 zone so I wasn't exactly caning it - the prat then proceeded to tailgate me (so close I couldn't actually see his headlights in the mirror) until suddenly just stopping dead in the road a few miles further on and letting me disappear into the distance. Maybe the little ***** broke down, I don't know. Some arse in a knackered Mondeo did the same the other night when he took exception to me getting away from a roundabout more swiftly than him.

Dumb adolescents turning the roads into their own little Midnight Club seem to be on the rise round here, and they're ruining everything!!

Grrr!

Not so much a problem here.

They can only start learning at 18.
Have to do a minimum number of hours
under paid tuition.

Then car insurance is astronomical until you hit 21
anyway.

Keep them all on scooters.

Re: Night driving being ruined!!!!

Think its getting more common everywhere

My first car was a Toyota Starlet (rubbish but i loved it ) and the amount of attention I got at night was unbelievable.

It got worse again with the 33 as it has the 1.3 badge on the back so they all wanna have a go. Most are dispatched though as they can't drive properly unless they're in a car park

Re: Night driving being ruined!!!!

The roads are getting much busier in general, day or night. A cruise about in the lanes used to be a fun way to spend a sunny afternoon, now they're full of either chavs thrashing a nackered Mondeo or old people in Rovers, both oblivious to the rest of the world, both driving with their hats on ... maybe bad driving is something to do with hats!

It would be fun to take on a race with these chavvy little feckers but chances are they'll be uninsured if you do tangle, not worth it IMO.

Re: Night driving being ruined!!!!

I can remember being a teenager in my little Citroen AX, and I used to drive stupidly fast at times, I know, but I never bloody tailgated anyone or tried to start an argument with people at junctions....it borders on road-rage with these little [email protected], that's what gets me, they don't just want speed, they want to provoke other road-users as well. Where do they get off on that???

Re: Night driving being ruined!!!!

I'll agree about the tailgating at night, it's no fun (at any time really)
I was coming home from picking friends up from the train station at about 2am and was enjoying the A40 being empty. Trundling along at 70mph was nice and calm.
I saw headlights approaching from behind for quite a distance, then after a few mins, some Ford Escort got right up my arse, then after a few mins there, proceeded to overtake me.
Aggrivated by this tailgating, I dropped a gear and floored it, my 200SX keeping me alongside him just long enough to make him think about what he did (or more likely was thinking "What the ****** is this idiot doing??) then I dropped back and he sped off onto the dual carrageway.
Not a clever thing I did there, and my anger got the better of me, but under the road's circumstances, I felt it was okay.

Why do people tailgate? And at night?
Thats just worse...

He IS the Chav of Wrexham

MikeyB, it's very easy to lose your temper with these tailgators. I have on a few questions, but try not to race them or encourage them. Have used my rear FOGS in the past when nutters got too close. I think nowadays that would make things worse

So I too think that it's getting worse out there, day aswell as night. My next door ChavNeighbour's drive was suddenly occupied by this chavmobile. I checked on the web to see if it was taxed, and it wasn't! In fact it expired a month before. So no insurance or MOT probs. Now it's gone again... great knowing that it's around on my local roads. Would have reported it, if it were parked on the road.

Re: Night driving being ruined!!!!

They altered the one way system in Dartford to Two way at great expense, largely due to it being used as a race track by the little scroates.

I saw one once smash his festa into the railings and drive off with the front in a right state, since then it has got a bit better. But they tend to congregate in the car parks, like foxes rummaging through rubbish.

It's a good point, doing things like this can just encourage them to do worse things.
One time at about 6am I was taking my ex to work. On a miniroundabout, some idiot didnt give way and just cut across me, I gave my horn a quick toot, and he obviously took great offence to this, as he proceeded to jam on the brakes and crawl along at a few MPH on the empty road in town. He started indicating left and right, then turned down the street I was going. He continued to go slow and indicate randomly, then turned into an estate, which, thankfully, I didnt need to go into, so I just sped off to get away from the situation.
I will admit I was pretty scared, as I had images of him stopping in the road and getting out and after me. The ex was a little shaken too.

It's easy to get angry and do something in retaliation, but the person on the recieving end can flip and make the situation a whole lot worse...

Exactly, and what's worse if it should come to blows and you win (don't condone such things but **** can happen) what sods law that you get dobbed in and in trouble with the police? Yep, not worth the bother.

I say all this and yet I know I'll probably still toot and rant at some dimwit on the road

Re: Night driving being ruined!!!!

A few years ago living in Swindon I got my first new car (fiat punto) and some chav bumbed my on the majic round about. We both stoped and exchanged details.
A lunch time I call to see about his insurance, it was not his number, whent to the police they said it was a private matter and would not get involved.

So a few days latter on my motorbike I waited for them to come through, I tailed them to there home made sure it was there house came back and took all the valves out of his tyres. The next day (early) I waited for him to come out and confronted him about the wrong phone number etc and the damage to my car. He could not care less as he was not insured and could i not see his car had not been on the road for weeks due to the flat tyres. I walked away but I felt great that he would have to pump his tyres up and be late for work.

And do I feel bad about it ......No it cost me several hundred pounds to put my car right but I always made sure he had flat tyres from time to time (left a note telling him why he had flat tyres).

When you found out where he lived wouldn't the police be interested in the [email protected] driving without insurance?
