Mooney People who DONT own Alfa Romeos

Why is it that everyone who does not own an Alfa thinks they know everything about Alfa s and spends all the time telling me the faults? I should nt let it get to me and I shrug it off but actually I d love to tell them to 'Bu**er off!' Instead, I sit there as a girl and claim to know nothing about cars in order to end the conversation. Any advice?

Re: People who DONT own Alfa Romeos

ah, but you see, that's the law.

Those who have never owned an Alfa, are always the greatest experts on them. They's have you believe what they've heard 3rd hand is better than a realworld experience. just ignore them.

Just ignore them! I had the same stuff over here!
everyone trying to tell your which car to choose and which is best and then when you ask them what car they are driving - they might reply and say that they have a old LADA or something!!!

Re: People who DONT own Alfa Romeos

Yeah that's just part and parcel of the Alfa experience.

Usually bringing the experts for a spin on a twisty road shuts them up for a while

Re: People who DONT own Alfa Romeos

Thanks for the support! I m feeling better already. It is pure sex to drive an Alfa whether new or old and I contemplated marrying an Italian on that basis alone.Yes, that may make me shallow but the car has caused me to have a love affair with all that is Italian (food, clothes weather and of course the wine!). I can t imagine owning anything else. My occupation means I spend a lot of time driving Landrovers and I ve been in trouble many times for trying to race them around as I might my Spider. Cheers to all of you for helping me deal with the bigotted carist (small minded) non Alfa owner!

I know what you mean, when I first bought my 33 the temp' secretary we had told me her husband recommended I keep the engine and the gearbox, and get rid of the rest of the car - the ignorant ******

I get grief from the people at work about Alfa's. They seem to suffer from tunnelvision. Nevermind we will show them one day what Alfa can do!!

As they prattle on, just say "Baaa, baaa" in between their sentences. When they ask what you are doing, smile sweetly and say your trying to see how it must feel being a sheep but you decided you still don't like it.

Re: People who DONT own Alfa Romeos

I had the same with a colleague the other day: he was telling me that Alfa's are expensive and that you can always see them broken down next to the road. When I asked him how much Alfa's he's seen next to the road with their hood popped and smoke coming from the engines.....his answer was.......none.

Then he started nagging about rust around my 159's brakepads. Then I said, every car has that and I wanted to show it on his car (A very spacious Renault Espace.....yep.....a touring car). However, as he didn't have aluminium alloys but simple steel wheel caps.....the story ended here and I thought I won't even bother anymore!

I ended with: "You can say and think whatever you like, at the end of the day I'm the one with a HUGE smile on my face driving my beautiful 159 "

I don't need no one to tell me about heaven, I look at my son and daughter and I believe.

Quote of the month: "Extremist ideas bring NON-tolerance as a result, because people having their face stuck up so deep in their Ar5e that they can't smell nor are interested in other's 5hit!"

Re: People who DONT own Alfa Romeos

I usually smile at them with a far off look in my eyes then politely tell them.

"When you have actually owned and driven a Alfa I will take your worthless opinion into consideration untill then P155 OFF"

yeah, I can. My folks had loads (and I mean loads of Alfas). Problems? One lunched its water pump (as cars still do), and another had a HT lead fail. That's it, mechanically. And that's over some 20 or so Alfas. I don't think we ever had an Alfa that failed to start, or to take us home.

My own GTV6 (the one built when Alfa quality was on a long, long break), started every time for five years. It only let me down when I left it in the garage for a year and didn't use it. To reward me for that, it had a massive mechanical strop that still makes my Visa card wince today.

If someone disses your Alfa, don't even bother to fight back. Don't even rise to it. Eventually whatever dross they have bought will break down. Just rise above it. You can say: "I didn't buy my Alfa to impress you, or because I care for your opinion, or to seek your approval. I bought my Alfa because i like it, and it's right for me." (and then you can mutter as quietly or as loudly as you like: 'now why don't you just go **** yourself')

Then it doesn't seem so far from me to you.

Re: People who DONT own Alfa Romeos

I had a sales rep in to see me the other day and somehow the talk switched to cars - 'Oh yes he said I have a Vectra and my wife has a Mondeo, what do you drive?

Me: 'An Alfa Romeo 156'

Him: Silly smirk - 'How often has that broken down then....? ' Ha Ha Ha

Me: Looked him straight in the eye and told him what was what

Did he want my business

Re: People who DONT own Alfa Romeos

I get the "does it break down much?" a fair bit.

Just stare blankly and say " No. Why do you ask?"

I did have one bloke tell me at great length why he'd never own an Alfa cos they are unreliable. I bit my lip.
2 weeks later his Pug 406 shat its gearbox over the A1M. The view from the moral high ground was lovely....

Re: People who DONT own Alfa Romeos

Chap at work who recently dumped his chronically unreliable SEAT Ibiza said to me that he fancied replacing it with an Alfa, but was put off by the running costs and reliability (he started spouting so-called stats from things like JD Power... ), and now he tools around in a Daihatsu Sirion....
