Fuel Prices

Has anyone been keeping an eye on fuel prices over the last few months. By my reckoning, the cost of a litre of unleaded has gone from 85p to 95p over about 10 weeks (yet strangely the price of diesel has remained fairly static).

This morning I noticed at my local garage that a litre of unleaded is now 1p more than a litre of diesel.

What the hell is going on? (apart from the motorist getting totally fleeced)

Yes, selling the GTA was a very high price to pay.

Re: Fuel Prices

Hasn't been under 90p for as long as I can remember around here. I'm on V-Power and that's 1.009 around here at the moment. I know it's better than normal unleaded (that's why I use it), but does it have to be so much more expensive?

Re: Fuel Prices

Just wait until a garage goes over the £1 mark. Once that is breached it will start rocketing up.

It happened over here, once it went over the one euro mark it went up very quickly. All it took was one garage to do it and they all jumped on the bandwagon!

Re: Fuel Prices

oil prices have crept up in the last month or two, also the supermarkets have slowly beefed up their profit margins having squeezed them tight earlier this year when there was a mini price-war going on between them.

i agree with stukav, once prices go over the 1 a litre mark and the initial shock subsides then the floodgates will open

Re: Fuel Prices

Question is, why is it that much at the moment? the press are normally shouting about it but now they couldn't care less (which is probably going to push up the price even more).

Why is it that high?

Re: Fuel Prices

Exactly. When the fuel protests were on, wasn't a litre around 80p. Seems as if the Great British public are just rolling over once again.

Re: Fuel Prices

Totally agree....we noticed the price had shot up this week by a few pence. Petrol is the same price as diesel which is odd!!

Has there been an increase in tensions somewhere???

at the moment my local tesco are selling diesel a penny CHEAPER than unleaded, first time i've ever seen that happen

i have a client who owns a small chain of shell stations, he reckons the supermarkets squeezed their profit margins to the bone early in the year but have recently re-asserted those margins, hence prices have gone up. oil prices have only gone up very slightly in that time.

Re: Fuel Prices

When I first started driving Diesels the differnece was about 4p a litre in favour of Diesel !! Suddenly that all changed around thanks to MR. Brown et all !!

Have noticed the prices are the same lately but haven't spotted anywhere actually selling petrol for a higher price yet !!

Al is right... the price of a barrel hasn't risen that much so - as had been said - it must be the Supermarkets pushing up their margins !!

Poor old Tesco need to raise their profits don't they !!

Considering it needs less refining, shouldn't it be cheaper anyway?

I think it might be, if I remember rightly there is 10% more CO2 in a litre of diesel than a litre of petrol. The more mpg you get out of an equivalent performance diesel should more than offset the price difference.

Try blending with veggie oil if you're worried about how much you're spending on diesel. Apparently its better for the engine too once it gets through the injection system.

Re: Fuel Prices

If you burned a litre of Diesel and a litre of petrol the diesel is worse for the envioroment. That is possibly why it is taxed more.
The only reason it appears more eco friendly is you get more miles per gallon so less CO2 per mile.
What a wonderfully stupid system.
