B****er. But at least you had it. Time for quiet reflection on all those happy hours spent on AO at the company's expense perhaps!
or is it time for a career change?

The other technique might be to buy a domain name that looks 'legitimate' and then redirect

Re: IT people at work

I'm surprised that anyone surfing from within a corporate LAN can get out to sites like AO, or the anonymous proxy type sites, given the levels of security demanded by the ever more invasive standards of corporate governance being introduced. Most web traffic filters have a large database to check against, often updated by the supplier on a regular basis using addresses reported by subscribers. Certainly the browsing habits of individuals can be reported on by even the most basic filtering software, giving the relevant powers that be the information to manually categorise addresses into banned categories.

Many now-a-days have DMZs to support visiting
external users' VPN.

Re: IT people at work

Our internet access is so locke down it hardly seems worth having .

It is almost understandable as they are worried about all the sensetive info we have on our system but when you consider the Police is not as locked down as us it seems a bit silly

Try this: http://www.phproxy.org/

or any of the dozens of other web proxies mentioned in that page.

If you can't open the page at all let me know and I'll copy-paste the links for you.

Re: IT people at work

Just a thought BF, but a lot of places where I've worked treated any attempts to circumvent the IT security policies as a pretty serious offence, and the use of these types of proxy site were one of the things on the list.

Might not be the same at your work, just a heads-up.

Re: IT people at work

I think you're right Jamie, will give it a pass probably. Can't really get into IT issues now given all that is going on.

I have heard the place I will be staying at in London has free broadband, so at least in the evening I should be able to log-in.
