Spiders

Scary little *******s they are. There was one the size of a digestive biscuit on my kitchen ceeling last night. Now, this morning, not there.

You just know, tonight i'll be sitting down watching the tele and out the corner of my eye the little ******* will emerge and scare the living sh*te out of me.

God I hate them. The closest things to demons on earth you can get I swear!

Re: Spiders

I hate and am really bothered by insects but spiders are the only ones that don't bother me (though the wife goes all scared when she sees one )

Re: Spiders

Also, I was lifting paving slabs at the weekend to lay some lighting cable beneath them, and there was one as big as my hand skulking under one of them!

I bet that's the one that breeds and populates my house every summer now I think about it, should have squashed the sod while I was there...

Re: Spiders

Spiders are cool, never, ever kill one! (...unless it's a venomous one in Australia and is about to kill you! )
They are perfectly formed killing machines, designed to get rid of the nasty things you hate, like flies and wasps. They are industrious and lead a fascinating life. The female will often eat the male after he has given his all in procreation of the species! They are a marvel, get a life and don't stamp on them!

Re: Spiders

FYI, they have 8 legs, as you probably know (they are not insects as such, they are arachnids and quite closely related to crabs). They also have 8 eyes (not compound eyes like flies) and they are spread around the head for sighting their prey. They have enormous mandibles (jaws) with large fangs on the end ( a very large UK domestic spider can actually give you a tiny little 'nip'). They have amazing web-constructing abilities and once they have caught prey, will silently pounce and inject anaesthetic which gradually dissolves it (how thoughtful). They will then bundle it up in silk and suck out the contents at their leisure
How could anyone kill such a magnificent creature?

Ex wives are very much the same!

I'm ok with spiders (not ex-wives) as long as I know they are there. It's as has been said when you see one scuttling across the floor out of the corner of your eye that I don't like them.

The ones I've seen are quite small. Don't think there is anything outrageously dangerous. For that, you need to go to Oz

Re: Spiders

Spiders are cool, in my old house, we used to have one that would appear at nearly the same time every night from behind the tv and crawl right across the room to get under the chair that was there,

didnt know what it did once under there though

Re: Spiders

I like Em'. VO2 Max has got it spot on. Their webs are stupendously strong, yet ridiculously flexible. Trying to make a man material like it, aren't we? No chance. My cats, bless the little creatures, weren't scared of the uk versions, so why an earth should a giant(metaphorically speaking) like me be?

Re: Spiders

I read somewhere that the average human inadvertently eats a few during their lifetime whilst asleep. (ie the wee buggers crawl onto your pillow and..... ) Eeeoooww!

I don't like harming any creature, but there is absolutely nothing worse if you have a fear of them than knowing there is a huge spider in the vicinity, when it has scuttled somewhere you can't see it! For this reason I admit I have a tendency to suck 'em up with the vaccuum from arms length!

My cats are even worse than me - if its a biggy, they'll run away from it!

Kurzon, are you a girly or summat?

147Virgin, my gf's cats eat them like a snack, leaving an empty carcase with the legs sticking out!

... and I bet when you were young, you wouldn't have minded being bite by one, just in case of the off chance of possibly inheriting Spiderman like powers

Re: Spiders

That would have been cool!

For a short period when I was a nipper, I used to keep a few spiders in a home-made vivarium and I would periodically chuck a couple of flies in for 'entertainment'!
