Say no to rocket

mild rant

I never want to go for another meal and see on the menu that the meal is 'accompanied' by or 'dressed' with 'rocket'. Rocket is the most pointless green I've ever come across. To me, rocket is as pointless as the hole you get in a Polo mint. It's there, as part of the act, but it doesn't really do anything overall. 'oooh sir, the steak is served with rocket' said the serving team. Like, somehow, you're doing me a favour by adding rocket? You're telling me that this totally pointless green that couldn't satisfy the hunger pangs of even the most impoverished, is meant to be some sort of bonus on my plate? How many times has a pea of meal been 'dressed' with rocket, as if a) somehow that justifies the cost and b) the rocket will fill you up?

Please - I never, ever, ever want to see rocket on or in any dish I order. It's like being told 'ooooh sir, we've added an extra helping of delicious air as a side order'. You're not kidding anyone! We're not blinded by rocket being 'exotic'; it's rubbish, it dresses the plate and that's all - adding a mountain of it doesn't make it a 'meal'.

Just say no to rocket, just say no. It is not a meal, nor does it accompany a worthwhile one.

A driver is always faithful to a car that's always faithful to its driver.

Sometimes in the darkest hour, love comes shining through.
Then it doesn't seem so far from me to you.

See your point, to a point

Ice burg lettuce is just a bland plate filler but I think the peppery taste of rocket does add something

granted, as a sort of seasoning, it's fine...but not as a substitute for something more substantial! Piling lots and lots of the stuff on a plate doesn't prevent me from thinking, erm, shouldn't there be something else here that the rocket's kinda falsely covering up for?

A rare beef sandwich from waitrose. Nice, but the beef's a bit thin and the whole damn thing is padded out with a forest of rocket either side of the beef! it's just wrong!

I like a bit of Rocket.

A Mozarella and Tomato Sarnie with some rocket leaves is great.

Easy to grow... heavy cropping and a rather nice peppery taste..

Just chuck a few seeds in a pot or whatever.... it's great.

[in fact it is so easy to grow.... they are making a fortune from you ]

precisely! Sure rocket has its place, but it's when eateries think they're doing you - or your meal - a favour by laying it on thick that makes me , lol

The oldest trick in the book for filling up a plate...

I hate any restaurant that still needs that daft trick :head:

I dunno what rocket looks like, but assuming it's green - I move it to the side of the plate and eat the real food.

I don't agree with the OPs rant. If he had said spinach I would be the first to shake his hand.
Pointless, tasteless and takes up too much space in the steamer.

I say SPINACH IS ****

Well, I'm not cooking for you then!

Oddly, I love spinach, with a smidge or garlic in it. Mmm, yum
