getting replacement car keys

So, got a new car recently, came with only one set of keys so I negotiated a discount for a second set. No problem I thought.

Went to order the second set today, only to find that our dear government has made it necessary for us to provide the V5 as well as ID and recent utility bill. Apparently the "New Registered Keeper" slip isn't good enough, it needs to be the V5, so I have to wait until DVLA get their backsides into gear before I can get the wife a set

S*dding beaurocratic forms, rules, and procedures - we wast all our time on this stuff, no wonder the country is broke

It'd be the other way around if someone had managed to fraudulently get keys for your car.

+1

Sorry mave, I'm with Ollie87 here.

You are deliberately made to jump through hoops to get keys cut for your car, as if you weren't, any old Tom, Dick or Harry would be able to exploit the system and wander off with your pride and joy.

I agree it's a pain in the bum, but its just one of those "necessary evils".

did you order the next key from the same dealer?
have to agree with others about proof of ownership though.

The only way to steal a car these days, with immobilisers ahoy, is to get a key, so that is why it is a pain to get replacements.

Be easier once your V5 eventually arrives.

Same with numberplates now (though one can order "show plates" easily online).

But I've got the new registered keeper form - I'm surprise that isn't enough. I also wouldn't mind so much if the V5 was quicker coming through, it's been 4 weeks now. It's not as if I'm asking for somrthing I haven't already got anyway - the fact that I'm standing there with a key in my hand and the car outside means that if I wanted to nick it, I probably wouldn't have gone into the dealership and given them photographic ID and proof of address
