Once the speed cameras have raised the required amount of cash work will commence.

It is another "cash cow", much like all of the cameras on the A2 here in Kent - no workers to be seen for ages, three lanes open - 50 MPH.

I have heard that the 'trial layout' has worked, so the road its most likely to stay like it is for quite a while.
PS if you are heading west and getting off the M3 at Bagshot there is no average speed camera to claock you off the motorway

ok so it has worked (and they are not planning on doing any actual work) why not just remove the average speed cameras surely they are there to protect the workers ...

I can't understand why they say it has "worked" when it causes a massive tailback back onto the M25 ..

Last I heard about it was that they were ment to be removed at the end of the trial, which was back in January I think.

You have ommitted the crucial fact...

Due to the sewage works at that junction, the whole area smells like a Turkish Wrestlers jockstrap so most of the time the speed with which people tried to get through that junction was dictated by how bad the smell was at the given time!

I heard a rumour its only to test road layouts, they move the cones about to see which causes the most chaos.

No movement of the cones in the last 2 years ... (although they seem to have optimised the chaos )

That's probably where I've deliberately crashed into them in my annoyance

UK roadworks make me laugh. They just go on-and-on
without ever any work seeming to be done.

I can't remember a time since 1987 when there haven't
been roadworks on the M25 between the M4 and M23 junctions.

I've been travelling back-and-forth along the A8 autoroute for the last
month-and-a-half and in that time they have already widened
a stretch to 3 lanes and have now started on the next section.

All with 2 narrower lanes and a speedlimit dropped to 110.

The rumour you heard appears to be true...
Highways Agency - M25 Junction 12 and M3 New Road Layout

156Chris...it says that it will take 16 weeks to mark the lanes and then it will be done. Then hopefully the cameras will have gone!

I had to laugh at:

"The trial has shown a significant journey time reliability improvement", that means it's screwed the whole time. I just don't know how that would convince anyone coming off the M25 clockwise that it worked.

Whilst some congestion on the M3 approach to the new layout has been generated in the evening peak period, traffic monitoring and analysis carried out since implementation has confirmed that this is far outweighed by the reduced congestion on the M25 anticlockwise approach.
So not really solving anything, just moving the problems around.

The Highways Agency is just another QUANGO out of control, isn't it?
