Madness Hubby thrown in a cell

I asked my hubby to go to the US to pick up my Spider parts. It's just across the border to Point Roberts.
He got to the American border and handed over his passport, he said things started to happen fast, he was told to put his hands on the steering wheel and 3 more guards came out of the building. He was asked to get out of his car and they handcuffed his hands behind his back. They escorted him into the building where they asked him to take off his shoes, duh, with his hands behind his back? brilliant. Anyway they put him in a cell and went away.

About 10 min passed and a guard came back and told him there had been a mistake and he could go. Nice.
They had put his car under cover but the window was still open and of course it was unlocked.
No one mentioned anything, just told him he could go

He picked up my stuff and came back to the Canadian side, showed the bill, was told to go in to pay $20. A guard then came in and asked him for his keys and they did a search of the car.

Interesting day for him, I'm not sure he'll ever go and pick up my stuff

Re: Hubby thrown in a cell

I guess his name matches someone who is unsavoury ?

He wasn't told anything, I'm worried it will happen again, he said there were sirens going off all of a sudden at the booth.

No recourse, they carry guns and can do what they want, they are protecting the U.S.

He is a big guy, that's why he had 3 border officers escort him.?

Re: Hubby thrown in a cell

Hmm... I spent time at that border crossing .
They didn't appear to be very clever or polite.

They are also lazy as they refused to take
my green visa waiver exit form back.

(Know all about spending time in a cell too. )

Glad they let him out before long.

Re: Hubby thrown in a cell

They are protecting the USA?

If they take an innicent(merlot again!) person to a cell without proper cause they should have to answer to someone. They are government officials and as I am one we have to treat people with respect and inform them of their right's . Surely he has right's?

Police , even border police have a supervisor/boss that they answer to?

He was handcuffed for god's sake ... I thought everone was innocent till proven guilty?

Re: Hubby thrown in a cell

I feel for him CG, I had it happen to me crossing into Belgium of all places, my mate was frogmarched away, I was sat on a chair in the middle of a white tiled room with one tiny window on my own for 40 minutes. Even though you know you've done nothing wrong you get paranoid very quickly about what might be happening. I hope your hubby is ok now, it is funny afterwards though

Re: Hubby thrown in a cell

Hubby said he just stayed really calm so they wouldn't do anything physical to him and marched along to the cell.

What do you expect, you are a Canadian and the Yanks are still hurting for the whipping you gave them when they invaded Canada in 1812...with out the Whipping, their President would not be living in the 'White' House

"Burn baby. Burn!" I think we should have
bi-centenary celebrations in 2012 to commemorate that
momentous occasion. Kinda like the stuff the US had
in 1976, but better.

Sorry to hear that CG........ hope you both get back to normal etc real soon.....

My dad got marched away once after arriving forholiday in USA from UK. His name matched someone they were looking for..... he was waiting a couple of hours before they released him. It wouldn't have been so bad...but the chap they were after was about 30 years younger than my 67+ Dad..... numpties

Re: Hubby thrown in a cell

I wouldnt know what to do in that situation

My dad had something similar when he got off the ferry from Holland, he pulled off and there was a armed responce unit and sniffer dogs waiting. He got out of his waggon and had red dots all over his chest and then they searched everything and took swabs off handles and stuff to see if he had been in contact with drugs. Still he said it was exciting and a laugh, he had nothing to hide

Kick up a stink CG and get an apologie (is that how you spell it!?)

The BORED No 13 The BORED Collective
Oi Hugh Jars leave Jim alone he's my mate he makes me laugh and can eat twice his bodyweight in sausages and beef burgers. He's my hero.Love to all, Mr Dunamis
Like Mr Dunamis, I also have a high opinion of Jim. He makes me laugh too. I would also wager he makes friends a bit easier than you Hugh. Ally
Yes and GTA Jim is very funny 156Chris

I had so much trouble with immigration last time I visited the USA that I dread going back. Much as I like the country and most of its people if my daughter didn't live in Seattle I doubt that I would ever go again.

It's easier in large "international" cities such as LA, NY & SF.

The problems start occurring at the borders where the guards
aren't exposed to "foreigners" as much.

e.g. a friend of mine was deported from St Louis once
due to a visa "irregularity".
I'd never fly through there.
