Have no fear, slimebuckets to the rescue!

How reassuring it is, that purely for the purpose of keeping himself in a job, Gordon Brown has enlisted into the Cabinet the 'services' of 2 people who have only the interests of our country at heart!

Peter Mandelson, that conniving little git whose self-serving interests have led to him being sacked TWICE for malpractice - the new Business Secretary...

and now, Paul Myners, who as leader of a Hedge Fund, led to the downfall of the Bradford & Bingley by 'short selling' (now outlawed) is to be Minister for the City...because if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! What the *****?!!!

Of course, to make it worth Mandy's while, he gets a Peerage.

How low can this govt. go? Just who will they jump into bed with, that would sleaze their way to personal fortune at yours and my personal expense?

Do you ever feel you have been taken up the poop-chute?

Government always seem to have a very short memory when it suits them

I hope the electorate doesn't have that problem at the next general election!!!

Re: Have no fear, slimebuckets to the rescue!

On a news broadcast today I saw the relief of city traders as the "rescue" plan was agreed. The opinion seemed to be "f*** that" we can carry on now.

Question?

What is the difference between a city trader and someone who can work but chooses to claim benefits instead?

Answer:-

I have no idea.

Re: Have no fear, slimebuckets to the rescue!

I quite like old Mandy. He may well give me the creeps but the guy is a smart politician and is, despite his smarmy persona, passionate about what he believes in. (I like passion)

His did a pretty good job as NI Secretary if I remember correctly.

The media do make him out to be the devil incarnate. Reading some of that crap will inevitably leave you with an "opinion" of someone. The guy's an astute tactician and respected parliamentarian. Just coz I wouldn't fancy having a beer with him, doesn't mean I can't see political talent.

Whether you like it or not, he (together with old Brown) created a "New Labour" that was electable and wholeheartedly credible. I think the guy is an asset - our rediculous 10 second soundbite media is determined to label him a liability

I can't agree with you more Jed. Mandy is not my cup of tea but he is intelligent, experienced and effective. With Mandy calling the shots from the background again, Gordon can do a bit more of what he does best - looking after the economy.

I'm sorry. But if that's what he does best, I'd hate to see the results of him trying something he's not so good at

Going to be an interesting choice atthe next General Election.

Only ever voted Tory twice: one when Thatcher got in (sorry, I was young) and then for Blair.

At least you know the common man is going to get stuffed if you vote for the Tories but you shouldn't expect it from Labour. Think I'd rather have no surprises.

Ah, Mandy is back.

Proof, if need be, that being a lying, cheating
sack of **** closet homosexual (can't even be truthful
to himself) is no impediment to high office.

Thought that was on the list of "desirable qualities" on the application form.

Which part? They lying to the public?

The gay bit is not a rant about him being gay,
but the fact he can't be truthful even about that.

Which lying do you mean Nev? I thought he was cleared of any wrong doing regarding the Hinduja case?

And the "gay" rant is still a non argument, and still salacious in the very least. I guess opinions of all shapes and descriptions are to be encouraged - however I was a bit suprised it came from you. You usually stay clear of such cheap shots

That's for sure.

It's not meant as a cheap shot.

Just feel that he's a dodgy bloke that can't be trusted
to be truthful about anything.

A man whose only saving grace is that he is not one of the majority religious rightwing nuts that currently control the Bush administration.

Although he possibly lied about his atheism too

Yep.

Vote tory, get tory.

Vote Labour, get tory.

but it's not just Britain, it's happening in politics all over the western world. Every government is just a centre-right mish mash. True right or left wing politics doesn't exist anymore.

Yes, and Tony Blair didn't mislead the Nation to take us into Iraq, it was the BBC that lied to us - Hutton was a top Judge, he must be right.

I'd be a bit wary of believing any govt-initiated inquiry, however 'impartial'.

I'm also very wary of Labour Politicians who are in it for their own careers and seemingly more interested in what's in it for them than what's good for the country. I expect it from a Tory politician, indeed, that stance would be a strength for a Tory, it's at the root of their beliefs and how they would run the country and 'generate wealth'.

But that's not my Politics and it rankles to see a Labour govt doing exactly the same things, including the PM and several top Cabinet members doing every dishonest thing they can to get as high up the housing ladder as possible - how on earth would they then do right by the country, by discouraging property speculation amongst the masses which has stopped anyone getting on the bottom rung and has led directly to the near-collapse of our Banking system which we are now experiencing? They would do no such thing of course, because they would be shooting themsleves in the foot.

Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. Politicians, take note.

Re: Have no fear, slimebuckets to the rescue!

Would the conservatives have done anything any better? No. Dave said in his speech that he will be, if elected, upsetting and annoying a lot of people with his tax increases too, so that's something to look forward to, although most of it will be aimed at the single people so at least that's something. Mind you, that's about all he said in his speech, which was, frankly, boring and the run-of-the-mill stuff you would expect from somebody with no vision or clue how to run a country. Lib Dems will hopefully have something more relevant to say, but as they wont get elected regardless, if i was Mr Clegg i would stay at home any enjoy a nice cup of tea.

Yup, I ate a load of lies and it kind of disagrees with me!

No, the Tories would have done pretty well exactly the same thing as this Labour govt have done - that's my point.

Can you explain that? I was stioll in school last time the tories were in, and had no interest in politics at all. What did they do that took us 'close to the brink'?
