A yob who killed a council accountant with one punch was jailed for 18 months at Teesside Crown Court today.
Richard Wyatt, 23, of Rochester Road, Roseworth, Stockton, previously admitted the manslaughter of 30-year-old Gavin Robinson.
Today the court heard how Wyatt asked for a cigarette from Mr Robinson, was refused, then delivered one blow to his jaw.
Mr Robinson fell to the ground, banging his head on Westbury Street, Thornaby, near his home, at about 1am on June 14 this year.
He suffered a serious brain injury and died in James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, nine days later.
Judge Peter Fox QC, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, said the prison sentence was lower than some might expect because Wyatt did not intend to kill or cause serious injury.
It emerged last month that Wyatt's father and brother are both serving prison sentences for murder.
Peter Wyatt, 53, was jailed for 14 years for strangling his lover Audrey Badger, 42, at her home in Thornaby in 2006.
Andrew Wyatt, 30, is nearing the end of a jail sentence for a baseball bat killing of Jason Milligan, 28, in the town in 1998.
