Inconsiderate *****

insert your own offensive description!

Got up this morning to find a Passat parked across my driveway.... smack bang on the middle of the white line painted in front of the dropped kerb and pretty much level with the No Parking sign on the gates.

The driveway is at the end of my garden and there was about 3 car lengths worth of parking either side of the road that would cause no problems.

Neither council or police seemed inclined to do much about it as it wasn't causing an offence. However it completely prevented me from getting my car out the drive.

The owner declined my kind request to put £10 through the door to cover my taxi fares to work and back and did not see any cause even to write an apology note..

Ah what it much be to go through life as an inconsiderate idiot... so much less stressful then having a conscience

And before anyone suggests that I should have let the air out of the tyres etc... please remember my car was stuck on my drive and open to retaliation.

Re: Inconsiderate *****

I fully sympathise with you. I had the exact same problem where i used to live. It would happen regularly by the same person. I eventually found out who it was and parked my car in front of their house for a full two weeks (it was a beat up old Fiesta that i didn't care about and was gonna scrap anyway), and when i finally went back to get it they had pretty much trashed it. Broken side windows, stereo taken, tyres let down, etc. I put a carefully worded note through their door explaining that their car would be no safer if parked in front of my drive again. It never was.

I have very low expectations of acceptable behaviour, but this might push it.

You don't own a Black Passat do you??

My note on the window was a model of restraint considering how fecked off I was.

I could have understood it a bit more if there was nowhere to park on the street (as sometimes happens when the footy is on) but there was plenty of room. Grrr

I thought that if someone blocked your egress from your property, then it was an offence...

Apparently not according to the lady from Police Customer Services who could do absolutely nothing to help as parking on a white 'courtesy' line is not an offence.

Used to happen a lot where I live ...we have a big office unit at the back of our property, belonging to a very well known catalogue / home shopping company, whos workers dont like to park in their car park but on the surrounding roads.
One woman in particular used to 'squeze' her Volvo on to spaces often overhanging many peoples driveways on our road. Calls to the offices rarely got her to move it. Until one day...

A neighbour who runs a tree felling business came home to get his large trailer/shredder from his driveway and guess who had blocked it....yep mrs Volvo....for the 3rd time ina week...he had left notes ...she ignored them. So with his trusty Landrover he winched the Volvo into the middle of the road... and drove away!
Police arrived ...they traced the owner and after an hour she very red faced !!!! had to face a road full of ANGRY car, taxi drivers, fellow workers, buss drivers and the police etc etc .....it never happened again....
Interestingly all the drivers who park on our road are NOW very carefull how they park...mmmmm wonder why!

So ...buy a landy and keep it around the corner!!! haha.

the eyes have it ![SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Cloverleaf, I suspect that you are right... Not exactly going to get their arrest stats up.

Just had a little look on t'internet and found this What legislation prevents motorists from parking by a lowered kerb blocking a driveway? — The Roadside Lawyer

So neither the local council or the police know the law.. or just can't be arsed to enforce it... that just makes me even more mad

Re: Inconsiderate *****

I found this cracking advice on the Central Scotland Police website FAQs

Q "Someone has parked outside in the road outside my house and is blocking my driveway. I cannot get in or out. What can I do?"

A "If the vehicle is causing an obstruction you should call your local police station and we will check whether the vehicle is stolen or not. If necessary we will send an officer."

So they only care if you're blocked in by a stolen car?

Or is what they say not what they mean...... Clear as mud.

Here's a linky...

PNLD FAQ Alphabetical List -

It is an offence if they block your egress, the police would deal with it as unnecessary obstruction....but it depends on the force/priority etc etc

Re: Inconsiderate *****

I have had this on numerous occasions - go knock the door at three in the morning.

I have a couple opposite whos mates park across my drive stopping me parking - what annoys me is that they could block their mates drive but prefer to block me in.

After several requests to stop doing it - I got my brother in law to block them in, he was off to call the plod until my bro told them he is plod.

Never done it since

Re: Inconsiderate *****

That's so annoying, I don't understand peoples inability to think about other people. "how would I like it if someone parked across my drive? ". It doesn't take much really.

If it was there all day I would of been fuming and hate to think what I would of done. Paint stripper all over the boot I think so they wouldn't of noticed it until they got home.

Re: Inconsiderate *****

yep, it's happened to me - some young dolly bird in a corsa decided to park right across my drive whilst she went swanning off to somebody's house round the corner on the main road somewhere. i stuck a note on her windscreen asking her (politely, i might add) not to block my drive again. when she came back an hour later she read the note, crumpled it up and just dropped it in the road. i came out of the house and asked her if she was gonna pick her litter up, to which she replied 'what? ****** off you w***er' and sped off. classy girl.

haven't seen her since. shame - i was gonna remind her she had a fat arse

That happened to me before but with a nissan micra - me and my mate grabbed a rear wheel arch each and bumped it out of the way - left it sat right out in the road though

Re: Inconsiderate *****

I have to say, that, bearing in mind, all calls to the Police are recorded, you could have tried a little "gentle persuasion". You could have threatened to "trash" the said Passat with a sledgehammer if they didn't have a word with the owner. You have to say this in a very reasonable manner, so that they realise that you are not deranged. Mind you, Jack Nicholson always spoke in a very soft voice when he was at his most menacing. I adopted this approach with the drunken neighbour who crashed into my GTV, and the Police arrived within 20 minutes.

Just ask for their name or number and then casually mention you are a paid up member of Which magazine, it's suprising how many Chief Constables dislike bad publicity. Not good for promotion!

Re: Inconsiderate *****

Inconsiderate buggers! If its a regular problem you can get these things that they use in car showrooms to move the cars around. There are two of these jacks and you put them under the rear wheels jack it up and just push it where you want. There was a place I used to deliver to at like 3am and people used to park in the way the night before so get the jacks out roll it where you want. Should of seen some of the place we put them. Sometime we would put it round the corner and wait to see the faces when they come to find their car. We put some of them in such stupid places sometimes the coppers would have to call a low loader and have it towed away and have to pay to get it back. That will teach them, most of the time it was the locals who should know better.

Re: Inconsiderate *****

I think your note asking for the taxi fare was the right move. Maybe driver will reflect on that and not do it again.

We continuously get people park in our office car park . We always leave a polite note and (altough it often gets screwed up) we rarely get repeat offenders. (I hate clampers so we would never go down that route).

Re: Inconsiderate *****

I retract some of my earlier irritation. The next day when I went to leave in the morning, I found an envelope with 'apologies' written on it and a tenner inside.

I am therefore going to go with genuine mistake rather than inconsiderate xxxxx
