Problems with access to other forums.

I am sure that I am not the only person whoe sometimes forgets his USER NAME or PASSWORD for an internet forum. I sometimes even forget BOTH ! When this happens and I attempt to either recover lost details or re-register, I am often shown a message that states something like this :-

" Your email address is already registered to another user".

Wll, of course it is , it is already registered to me ! However, it generally seems impossible to go beyond that fateful message, so further participation in the forum is prevented. Does anyone know a successful solution to apply in those circumstances ?

Re: Problems with access to other forums.

I write them down now, but there are forums which I joined some while ago before I wrote details down, and then when I access them now I have the problem I described.

Re: Problems with access to other forums.

Seriously it can be a problem, mostly Firefox remembers these things for you but when you change computers ????? Don't know of any way to transfer these over automatically, same with the Bookmarks, perhaps there may be a way which someone can share.

Some sites I have had problems with offer you the chance of submitting either password or user name, if you can't remember either you are stuffed.

I suppose the only way would be to contact the site as a non member or telephone if there is any contact details but apart from these I can't think of any other way around other than joining again under a new name, perhaps if you can do this at least then you are in and perhaps be able to get back to normal.

So do I now, but my current problem relates to those forums to which I did NOT write down my details. Several of these are very good forums, access to which I would not like denied merely because I have not recorded the details with which I first registered. These forums are those which respond to me by indicating the message which I showed in my original thread i.e "Thie email address is registered to another user", or something like that. That is the problem that faces me - how do I get around that ?

That is not at all a good idea ! This because doing that makes it very easy for anyone who is malevolent to trace your particpation in other forums and then post in a different one your thread, which might not be complimentary to that forum. I have had this happen with some onanists in another car club I belong to and it has been embarrassing for me.

Re: Problems with access to other forums.

Its always possible to rattle up a new yahoo or hotmail email account if you really want to logon to a forum that locks you out on this basis...... of course that means that you then have to remember more email addresses/passwords, and what email address you've used with which username/password on which forum....... time to get a bigger pad of paper and a new pen.....

Re: Problems with access to other forums.

I always save my confirmation email into a folder called 'useful' in my mail app.

Unfortunately, I didn't do this with yahoo and I signed up in the past with both my email accounts, so I can't use any site that requires a yahoo ID.

You could always get a new email address and use that when you register.

The other forums are all on different subjects and I really doubt that anyone would connect them. PaulR is normally already taken as a name so I just add numbers afterwards - as do other PaulRs

Re: Problems with access to other forums.

Use a bit of software like Password agent (free)

Moon Software - official homepage of Multimedia Xplorer, Password Agent, Backup Magic, Font Xplorer and other fine shareware & freeware software

Then all you have to remember is your master password

Re: Problems with access to other forums.

I have the same user name on all forums, and a selection of passwords to choose from. They all mean something to me, still a mix of numbers and letters, so I don't forget them.
