Is my new 156 a nutter magnet???

Coz I never had this problem in my old 164!
In the past month, I've had approximately 5 near misses!
I'm begining to wonder if a 'Klingon Cloaking Device' is fitted as standard on my car
Had a close call on a roundabout a couple of weeks ago with a van that just shot out in front of me... And again about a week later on the same roundabout (Clifton's) but this time it was a motorcyclist!
A few other random close calls but an incident on Sunday was the nearest to a major accident yet!
I was driving down the A2, on route to the coast when I passed the M25 junction.
As I started climbing the hill towards the Bluewater junction, I passed a 'pimped up' red Escort which was joining the A2.
By the time I'd reached the Bluewater turn-off, I realised the Escort was along side me in lane 3.
The next few seconds were the scariest I've experienced for a while...
With no warning whatsoever, he suddenly accelerated to a point just in front of me and then swerved across my path (whilst braking heavily!) causing me to slam the anchors on; I'm fairly certain that there may have been the slightest of contact, although later, I couldn't see any evidence.
He drove across all 3 lanes, only just making it onto the Bluewater slip without clipping the grassed area!
Even more worrying was the fact that he had a kid strapped into a baby seat in the front, his wife/GF in the back sitting with a toddler... What the hell was he thinking?
I'd like to think he didn't perform the above on purpose, but I am beginning to get a little paranoid about driving a 'sportier' looking car!

I think some people just dont like the idea that someone may overtake them. Who knows, maybe they see it as a sign of weakness, or that their manhood might shrink further. I had a similar-ish thing yesterday on the A428. A light blue BMW, 3 series i think but it was debadged, was toodling along, i joined the road in front of it and immediately he roared past me before slowing down to 60. As i was doing 70 i indicated to pull out and he accelerated again. This went on for about 2 miles before i pulled off the road. Pathetic little dweeb.

Amazing how cars can seem invisible. Was nearly collected on a round about by an old clapped out Escort at the weekend, near rear ended at lights by a dozy mare in a Peugeot today. Also a lot of folk seem to want to go back past me if I overtake, has happened much more since I got the Alfa

Re: Is my new 156 a nutter magnet???

When I had my silver 156 I had no end of people pulling out in front of me, and had several near misses. Often even with the lights on.

I have never had it as often with any other car.

Re: Is my new 156 a nutter magnet???

Try to drive faster but there's a new unmarked car around my area I didn't know of. Luckily my dad saw it the other day and phoned me at work to tell me Like to clear my head on the way home and have some fun by giving the car a good run.

07 Plate BMW5 Series in Silver if anyone's interested, although it was seen where I work would probably operate around Ayr and possibly Kilmarnock areas too.

No problem Dawsub. I live in Auchinleck and work in Cumnock (around 15 miles from you) and the unmarked cars we see usually operate around your area as well as the come to here from elsewhere. Luckily my dad saw them as they had pulled somebody and he saw them standing outside the car. Haven't seen this one for a few weeks but there was also a red Ford. Good to keep people informed

Re: Is my new 156 a nutter magnet???

I think this "dawdling then overtaking again" is very common. It happens to me, whether I am driving in the Mondeo or the Alfa. Dual carriageways are the worst places, followed by the middle lane f the motorway. I think that most Alfa drivers, like myself, tend to drive at consistent speeds on any roads. I don't have "races" with people, but overtake when necessary. I have also noticed that the "immediate" overtaking thing, coincides with a desire to stay in the outside lane afterwards, with an attempt to slow you up, by matching the speed of someone in the middle lane.
In my opinion, "playing games" like this is a very dangerous and stupid pastime.

I get it all the time! Do you have the body kit on yours? I do and I get all manner of Corsa's and Fiesta's trailling me. Subaru's love to try and race. Much as I love my Alfa it's no match for an STi (wish I had a GTA) and no matter how much I try to ignore them they won't leave me alone!
I think this is the only drawback to my AlfaOwner experience.

Just think to yourself that your car has so much style compared to the Subaru. And is more comfortable and classy.
