Way back when the ERM was fresh in memory and the Euro was not quite there, the government of the day always maintained that we would (re)join "if the conditions were right". At least that's how I remember it but it was a long time ago.
Now, as the Pound and Euro converge, I think that jeeper is right. Once parity has been achieved I expect an announcement that we will switch to the euro. Whether it happens is anybody's guess - there are some who won't like the loss of Sterling, that's for sure. The governmnent have robbed us of individuality, lost our identities etc., so I suppose one more kick in the knackers won't hurt (much)...
What it all means in economic terms is beyond me, I'm no economist or I wouldn't have a GTA!
