one tractor I'd expect... this just took the **** though....

Now, I live a little bit out in the country, so I expect to once every so often get stuck behind a tractor.

Today took the biscuit though.
I got up at 7am to refit my headlights onto the car, as I had to be back in Dublin by 1pm and I had a few other things to do as well.
I figured, since it's a bank holiday, that there would probably be a few people out on the road, so i decided to take the backroads route instead of heading to the larger main road.

After travelling nearly 20kms, i found myself stopped behind 3 other cars.

The sight ahead of me shocked me.. I would've taken pictures if only the camera had battery!

Literally LOADS of tractors were pouring out of a turn onto the road ahead of me, and some numpty in a hi-vis jacket had stood infront of the traffic ahead of me to give the tractors right of way.
Now, bad enough it was that they were then holding me up to let tractors in ahead of me, what was worse, was that after 10 mins of sitting there watching, the torrent of tractors hadn't slowed or stopped!

It turns out it was a protest about the proposed electrical pylons in the area... Only reason i know this is because they had signs on the side of a couple of tractors..

Anyway, a few minutes later, I see a Garda car come flying up the road toward me, blues & twos flashing, and i think "ah great, they're gonna stop these tractor muppets and let me and everyone else on their way"

but no. The copper got outta the car, walked over, sent the guy in the hi-vis jacket on his way and began directing the tractor traffic himself

If he wasn't a copper, i tell you now, he would've got a slap! I was now running late, and if i'd have waited for all the tractors to pass, i still would've been stuck behind them for the next 20 years or so....

This, however, is where the story takes a turn for the better.
You see, the road that leads from my house to that point and back, is, by all accounts, a brilliant driving road.
So i sent messages to people i was meeting in dublin explaining I'd be late, promptly turned around and booted off back the way I'd come

So worth it
I loved that drive back toward my house and back the way i should've gone in the first place.

But the point of the story....

I HATE F***ING TRACTORS!!!!!!!

GRRR!!

Normally I'll overtake them as soon as it's safe to do so...

but when was the last time you found a decent enough straight on a country road to overtake a hundred odd tractors?

Hey, I have a V6, I could overtake 1000 on a blind bend and still have room for a bus!

no fair

I enjoyed driving back anyway... lots & lots of twisties it was just the time that bothered me really...

I also don't care about their pylon protest.
So what, the council/government want to build a big metal thing so you can have electricity......

I fail to see how that's a bad thing...

electricity good.... without electricity that tractor of yourse wouldn't be driving round on a protest....

see what I'm getting at?

Fairly rural area where I live and I can sympathis with getting caught behind tractors. Also work with a couple of folk from farming families so have had arguments about farmers and tractors at work as well - not paying road tax and using red diesel - they shouldn't be on the road - cut across the fields they love and are built for!

Even worse there is a construction firm's depot near here with those big mobile cranes that toddle along. half the time can't see past them to get by.

as i said, I expect to get stuck behind the odd one here and there.

If ya read the first post, you'll see I got stuck behind LOADS of them!
I counted as 20 of them rolled out of the junction, and then i gave up counting. Whilst sat there waiting for around 15 mins there was a non-stop stream of them coming out of the juntion and a guy in a hi-vis jacket stopping all other traffic for carrying on..

Honestly, never seen the likes of it before!
